EPISODE 3 – AN ADMONITION TO MANKIND
And Allaah (ﷻ) continues to tell us;
But if they endeavour to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness and follow the way of those who turn back to Me [in repentance]. Then to Me will be your return, and I will inform you about what you used to do.
(Luqman 31:15)
Be righteous to your parents and have good conduct towards them. Serve and fulfil their needs to your utmost capacity but obeying Allaah (ﷻ) comes first.
Allaah (ﷻ) says in the next Ayah;
[And Luqman said], “O my son, indeed if it [i.e., a wrong] should be the weight of a mustard seed and should be within a rock or [anywhere] in the heavens or in the earth, Allaah will bring it forth. Indeed, Allaah is Subtle and Aware.
(Luqman 31:16)
This Ayah of the Holy Qur’an should make us know that sin will always be a sin, and no matter how small we think an evil deed is, Allaah (ﷻ) knows of it, it would still be recorded and we will be called for an account on it on the day of judgement.
Those ‘little’ gossip you make are worth recording and being punished for, no matter how small they are, Allaah (ﷻ) is also aware of the sins you commit with your eyes, for instance watching pornographic movies Dear sister, for other men who aren’t your mahram to perceive your perfume, is also haram, and also attracts punishment from Allaah (ﷻ).
O my son, establish prayer, enjoin what is right, forbid what is wrong, and be patient over what befalls you. Indeed, [all] that is of the matters [requiring] resolve.
(Luqman 31:17)
Luqman knew that anyone who enjoins what is right and forbids what is wrong will surely encounter harm and annoyance from people, so he told him to be patient. At the end of the Ayah, Luqman said,
Indeed, these are some of the important commandments;
that is, being patient with people over the harm and annoyance they cause is an important commandment.
And do not turn your cheek [in contempt] toward people and do not walk through the earth exultantly. Indeed, Allaah does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful.
(Luqman 31:18)
Luqman told his son not to turn his face arrogantly away from people when talking to them and also to avoid being boastful, proud and stubborn for Allaah (ﷻ) hates anyone who has these characteristics.
Abdullah bin Mas’ud (رضي الله عنه) reported:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “He who has, in his heart, an ant’s weight of arrogance will not enter Jannah.” Someone said: “A man likes to wear beautiful clothes and shoes?” Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ) said, “Allaah is Beautiful, He loves beauty. Arrogance means ridiculing and rejecting the Truth and despising people.”
