THE DANGERS OF THE EVIL EYE AS APPLICABLE TO WOMEN

THERE IS HARM IN UNCOVERING YOUR BODY

…indeed if there was anything that could overcome the Decree, then the evil eye would overcome it.”
(Jami` at-Tirmidhi, 2059)

The evil eye is like an arrow which comes from the soul of the one who envies, sometimes it hits him and sometimes it misses. If the target is exposed and unprotected, it will affect him, but if the target is cautious and armed, the arrow will have no effect and may even come back on the one who launched it.

The majority of Muslims believe in evil eye as the fact is supported by several Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ); However, with this belief, many superstitious claims have been associated with it.

That is why the Prophet (ﷺ) advised us not to disclose a dream one had to any, except to close ones.
When Prophet Yusuf (عليه السلام) saw a dream according to the Noble Qur’an;

(Remember) when Yusuf (Joseph) said to his father: “O my father! Verily, I saw (in a dream) eleven stars and the sun and the moon, I saw them prostrating themselves to me.”
(Yusuf 12:4)

The father advised him saying….

He (the father) said: “O my son! Relate not your vision to your brothers, lest they arrange a plot against you. Verily! Shaitan (Satan) is to man an open enemy!
(Yusuf 12:5)

Allāh (ﷻ) does not tell anyone the details of what will happen to him, good or bad. Hence everyone has to strive to bring goodness to himself and ward off harm from himself. It is not wise to travel a path that leads to the opposite of what he wants and then say, “I will never get anything but that which has been decreed for me.” No one should sit in his house and then say: “I will never get any provision but that which has been decreed for me.” Likewise no one should eat rotten food and then say: “Nothing will happen to me but that which Allāh (ﷻ) has decreed for me.” These are things which if anyone does or says them, he would be regarded as insane, and he is indeed insane.

It’s important we don’t give Shaytan the chance to hit us. One of the easiest ways Shaytan employs to hit ibn Adam (especially the sisters) is to trick them in displaying their beauty to the public, ignoring the Islamic dress conduct. Displaying their pictures on social media and so on. Little do they know that the Evil eye can easily hit them even through their pictures.

Sisters! Know, you will not attract evil eye closer to yourself than when you put your life out there to it; by broadcasting your day-to-day life to the face of the world with an instrument called ‘status update’.

Hence, the sisters should fear Allāh (ﷻ) with regards to their affairs, and strive to please Him (ﷻ) alone, and not His creation.

To be continued… إن شاء الله

May Allāh (ﷻ) keep guiding us all and protect us from evil eyes.
آمين
