Allah ﷻ says

خَالِدِيْنَ فِيهَا اَبَدًا

They will reside therein *forever.
[2:82]
_
These three words will either make a person eternally happy or regretful.
When you hear these words, what sprung to mind?
_
If you felt a little regret now, imagine the regret on Qiyamah of the people.
_
If man was to be told that he would be in Hell for a million years, he would count down the days and be hopeful of his exit and it would be to a certain extent sufficient for him to bear his punishment.
But with the word, ابدا, there is no way out.
There is nothing after it!
_
And just as the Bliss and pleasures of Jannah will only increase.
The Punishment of Hell will also only increase
_
Allah ﷻ says

فَذُوقُوا فَلَنْ نَزِيدَكُمْ إِلَّا عَذَابًا

So Taste! We shall not increase you except in punishment!
[78:30]
_

كُلَّمَا نَضِجَتْ جُلُودُهُمْ

We shall burn them in the fire, every time their skins are roasted through.

بَدَّلْنَـهُمْ جُلُوداً غَيْرَهَا لِيَذُوقُواْ الْعَذَابَ

We shall change them for other skins that they may taste the punishment.
[4:56]
Ibn Umar رضي الله عنه said, “When their skin are burned, they will be given another skin in replacement, and this skin will be as white as paper.”
And then the punishment will begin again.

In another place Allah ﷻ says

وَنَحْشُرُهُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَـمَةِ عَلَى وُجُوهِهِمْ

And we shall gather them together on that day on their faces.
[17:97]
When Prophet ﷺ was asked about this, he ﷺ replied “The one who made them walk on their feet is able to make them walk on their faces”
[Sahih Muslim]

The ayah continues..

عُمۡیࣰا وَبُكۡمࣰا وَصُمࣰّاۖ

blind, dumb and deaf.

مَّأۡوَىٰهُمۡ جَهَنَّمُۖ كُلَّمَا خَبَتۡ زِدۡنَٰهُمۡ سَعِيرٗا

Their refuge is Hell; every time it subsides We increase them in blazing fire.
[17:97]
_
Even though these Ayaat refer to the Kuffar, we should fear falling into Kufr or Nifaaq unintentionally!
_
Next time you feel lazy with any acts of worship, remember the word ابدا
_
Next time you are about to sin, remember the word ابدا.
_
Next time you are about to turn away from Allah ﷻ, remember the word ابدا.
_
It’s your choice, make it before it’s too late.
