Allah ﷻ says

يَٰأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ أَطِيعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُوا۟ ٱلرَّسُولَ

Oh you who believe! Obey Allah and obey the messenger.
[4:59]
Meaning you do what they commanded and you abstain from what they forbade.

Allaah ﷻ says

وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن يَشْتَرِى لَهْوَ ٱلْحَدِيثِ لِيُضِلَّ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍۢ وَيَتَّخِذَهَا هُزُوًا ۚ أُو۟لَٰئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌۭ مُّهِينٌۭ

And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e. music, singing) to mislead (men) from the path of Allah
[31:6]

The scholar of the ummah, Ibn ‘Abbaas رضي الله عنه said this means singing. Mujaahid رحمه الله said: this means playing the drum (tabl).
(Tafseer al-Tabari, 21/40).

Ibn Mas’ud رضي الله عنه swore by Allah 3 times this referred to singing.
Ibn Umar رضي الله عنه confirmed his opinion

Narrated Abu ‘Amir or Abu Malik Al-Ash’ari:
that he heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying, “From among my followers there will be some people who will consider illegal sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk, the drinking of alcoholic drinks and the use of musical instruments, as lawful..”
[Sahih Bukhari 5590]

Stopping the Haram that your family members commit is one of the toughest ordeals.
But it must be done!
No excuses!
_
But we have corrupted the very thing that is there to keep us from falling into Immorality!
_
Marriage is there to prevent us from doing Zina and the like, yet we start it off by using entertainment that takes away any Barakah, leads people to immorality and hypocrisy!
_
We must put a stop to this immorality!
If you receive a wedding invitation, ask about the music and enquire.
If there is, choose Allah ﷻ over your family and yourself.
_
Because we will be held accountable for the choices we made.
And each thing we do, counts.
Just as removing something from a pathway can land us in Jannah,
Littering can cause someone to get hurt and could land us in trouble!
_
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:
“Never do the love of song and the love of Quran come together in a person’s heart except that one expels the other.”
_
May Allah ﷻ forgive us and protect our hearts and minds from the fitna of music.
