Abu Bakr and Umar رضي الله عنهما و أرضى were given glad tidings of paradise.
Yet Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه used to say “I wish I was like this bird, from tree to tree, then I die and there is nothing for me and nothing against me”
As the saying goes
المؤمن بين الخوف و الرجاء
The believer is between fear and hope.
But we have forgotten fear, and have become filled with hope.
This has led to the leniency and a relaxed attitude with the rulings of Allah ﷻ.

But look at the best examples of this Ummah after Prophet ﷺ and let us remind ourselves of what fearing Allah ﷻ means!
_
For we, people who aren’t guaranteed Jannah, feel safe in our houses and in our cars to sin or to be people in heedlessness…
While Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه was promised Jannah, yet he was worried for himself to the extent, he would wish to be a bird.
_
Umar رضي الله عنه, the one who Allah ﷻ agreed with via revelation on many occasions,
The one who the Shaytaan fled from and took another street.
The one who was Al Farooq,
He used to grab his heard and say “Woe to you oh Ibn Al Khattab! If you met Allah.”
He had two lines on his face from his intense crying!

So how are we feeling safe,
How are we void of the fear of Allah ﷻ!
_
Al-Harith ibn Suwaid reported: Abdullah ibn Mas’ud رضي الله عنه said, “Verily, the believer views his sins as if he were sitting under a mountain, fearing it will fall upon him. The wicked views his sins as if they were a fly passing over his nose.”
[Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 5949]

When Allah ﷻ commands us to have Taqwa, and praises those who do!
But we are averse to it, thinking it is restrictive!
Allah ﷻ says:
وَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَٱعۡلَمُوٓاْ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ
And fear Allah and know that Allah is with those who fear Him.
[2:194]
And Allah ﷻ says
أَفَأَمِنُواْ مَكۡرَ ٱللَّهِۚ فَلَا يَأۡمَنُ مَكۡرَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَّا ٱلۡقَوۡمُ ٱلۡخَٰسِرُونَ
Then did they feel secure from the plan of Allah ? But no one feels secure from the plan of Allah except the losing people.
[7:99]

We are so lax, we resemble those who will be thrown in the fire.
As Allah ﷻ says:
الَّذِينَ اتَّخَذُوا دِينَهُم لَهوًا وَ لَعِبًا
Those who took their religion as play and amusement!
[7:51]
_
Those are the ones who disobeyed Allah ﷻ, didn’t fear him or his command!

May Allah ﷻ make us among the righteous.
آمِيْن يَارَبَّ الْعَالَمِينْ
