Allah ﷻ says in the Qur’an:
ٱدۡعُ إِلَىٰ سَبِیلِ رَبِّكَ بِٱلۡحِكۡمَةِ وَٱلۡمَوۡعِظَةِ ٱلۡحَسَنَةِۖ وَجَـٰدِلۡهُم بِٱلَّتِی هِیَ أَحۡسَنُۚ
“Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best”
[an-Nahl 16:125]
_ Narrated from Tameem ad-Daari رضي الله عنه: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Religion is sincerity.” We said: To whom? He (ﷺ) said: “To Allah, to His Book, to His Messenger, and to the leaders of the Muslims and their common folk.”_
[Sahih Muslim 55]
_ Ibn al-Atheer رحمه الله said: “Sincerity towards the common folk of the Muslims means: guiding them to that which is in their best interests.”_
[An-Nihaayah 5/142]
_ Ibn Hazm رحمه الله said: “If you give advice, then give advice in private, not in public, and by hinting, not by speaking bluntly, unless the person to whom advice is given will not understand hints, in which case there is no option but to speak bluntly.… If you go beyond these guidelines, then you are wronging him and are not being sincere in your advice.”_
[Al-Akhlaaq wa’s-Siyar, p. 45]
_ Al-Kalabadhi رحمه الله reported: Umar ibn Abdul Aziz, رحمه الله said, “May Allah have mercy on a man who shows me my faults.”_
[Baḥr al-Fawāʼid 1/129]
