Who Are They?

Allah ﷻ says in the Qur’an:

إِنَّمَا يَتَقَبَّلُ اللَّهُ مِنَ الْمُتَّقِينَ

Verily, Allah accepts only from those who have Taqwa
[5:27]

If you have Taqwa, you are among the friends of Allah ﷻ in this Dunya!

What is the evidence?
Allah ﷻ says in Surah Yunus,

أَلَاۤ إِنَّ أَوۡلِیَاۤءَ ٱللَّهِ لَا خَوۡفٌ عَلَیۡهِمۡ وَلَا هُمۡ یَحۡزَنُونَ

Behold! The Awliya’ (Allies) of Allah, no fear shall come upon them nor shall they grieve.
[10:62]
Who are they?

ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَكَانُوا۟ يَتَّقُونَ

Those who believed, and have Taqwa.
[10:63]
_ Ibn Kathir رحمه الله brings a narration regarding the first ayah, Abu Ad-Darda’ رضي الله عنه said: “If I become certain that Allah has accepted even one prayer from me, it will be better for me than this life and all that’s in it. This is because Allah says, (he then recited “Verily, Allah accepts only from those who have Taqwa“)_

The Sahaba رضي الله عنهم were scared that maybe their deeds weren’t going to be accepted!

They had more Taqwa than anyone after them!
Yet they still feared for themselves!

Such was their mindset and attitude towards Allah ﷻ!
_
We must strive to be like them!
We must strive to be like those who have Taqwa,
So that our deeds may be accepted by Allah ﷻ!

It is reported that Al-Ḥasan Al-Baṣri رحمه الله said:
The believer does the best deeds yet is most fearful [that his deeds will not be accepted]. If he were to spend a mountain of wealth [in charity], he would not feel sure [of the reward] until he sees it. The more righteous and pious he becomes, the more he fears. But the hypocrite (munāfiq) says, ‘There are so many people, I will be forgiven, no problem.’ So he does wrong and evil deeds, yet holds foolish wishes about Allah.

What about us?
Why do we continually expect that Allah ﷻ will definitely accept from us?!!!
When we are deficient in so many ways with regards to our Deen?!

We have no guarantees, we have no promises that He ﷻ will accept!
Rather we should hope, pray that it is accepted!
_
And to expect acceptance, without effort or work is arrogant.
Such is the captain, who sails his damaged ship into a storm without repairing it first.
_
May Allah ﷻ make us among those who attain Taqwa and may Allah ﷻ accept all our deeds.
