Episode 1️⃣: Start with the Sunnah Rites

Children are a source of delight and an adornment for the world granted by Allaah (ﷻ) to their parents. They are the fruit from whom good is to be hoped for when they frequently supplicate “My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small.”

One of the utmost blessings in this world is a righteous offspring, this is in relation to the saying of Prophet Zakarriyah (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ);

At that, Zechariah called upon his Lord, saying, “My Lord, grant me from Yourself a good offspring. Indeed, You are the Hearer of supplication.”

(Aal-E-Imran 3:38)

Then the statement of Allaah’s Apostle (ﷺ). “When the son of Adam dies, all his good deeds come to an end, apart from three: sadaqah jaariyah (ongoing charity, such as a waqf or endowment), beneficial knowledge, and a righteous son who will pray for him.”

(Muslim, 1631).

[May Allaah (ﷻ) grant us all righteous progeny Ameen.]

In recent times there has been wide circulation of prayers and nawafils in preparation to welcome these new family members. This can be in units of prayers and specific surahs to be recited in them or repetition of one or some names of Allaah (ﷻ). These have no evidence from the Qur’an or sunnah of the Prophet (ﷺ). Nevertheless an expecting mother is always to be in a state of dhikr and continuous prayers for the child. This can be seen in the Prayer of the wife of Imraan to her unborn child,

[Mention, O Muhammad], when the wife of ‘Imran said, “My Lord, indeed I have pledged to You what is in my womb, consecrated [for Your service], so accept this from me. Indeed, You are the Hearing, the Knowing.”

(Aal-e-Imran 3:35)

But when she delivered her, she said, “My Lord, I have delivered a female.” And Allaah was most knowing of what she delivered, “And the male is not like the female. And I have named her Mariam, and I seek refuge for her in You and [for] her descendants from Shaytan, the expelled [from the mercy of Allaah ].”

(Aal-e-Imran 3:36)

This makes it obvious a mother should always and consciously pray for her unborn child, Staying away from all forms of Haram.

To be continued ….
