Has The Time Not Come?
Allah ﷻ says in Surah Al-Hadid
أَلَمْ يَأْنِ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ أَن تَخْشَعَ قُلُوبُهُمْ لِذِكْرِ ٱللَّهِ
Has not the time yet come for the believers that their hearts should be humble for the remembrance of Allah.
Abdullah ibn Mas’ud رضي الله عنه said Only four years separated our acceptance of Islam and the revelation of this Ayah, in which Allah ﷻ subtly admonished us
وَلَا يَكُونُوا۟ كَٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ مِن قَبْلُ فَطَالَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْأَمَدُ فَقَسَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ
Lest they become as those who received the Scripture before, and the term was prolonged for them and so their hearts were hardened
Allah ﷻ is prohibiting the believers from imitating those who were given the Scriptures before them, the Jews and Christians. As time passed, they changed the Book of Allah ﷻ that they had, and sold it for a small, miserable price.
وَكَثِيرٌۭ مِّنْهُمْ فَٰسِقُونَ
And many of them were rebellious
[57:16]
Meaning, in action; therefore, their hearts are corrupt and their actions are invalid
سبحان الله
You have been muslim for how long now?
For the reverts a couple of months or years maybe.
For the Born muslims, all your life.
For this long you have testified لا اله الا الله و محمد رسول الله and you have performed the actions of a muslim.
_
But Allah ﷻ is asking you, reflect oh Slave, is it not that time that you gain Ikhlaas, Ihsaan and Khushoo’ in your actions?
_
Is it not time you turn back to Allah ﷻ and become the best you can be?
_
In another place Allah ﷻ asks
فَأَيْنَ تَذْهَبُونَ
Then Where are you going?
[81:26]
Meaning, where you going oh slave! from the Book of Allah ﷻ and His obedience.
_
How many more Ramadhans will pass us by, where we have fasted but we have not changed anything nor have we improved?
_
How many more Salah will we pray with haste?
_
Ya Ibn Adam! Poor is the one who did many deeds, but found his deposit reduced because the quality lacked in the quantity.
_
Poor is the one who stands on Qiyamah with mountains, only to find them corrupted and evil because his intentions were corrupted and evil.
_
Destroyed is the one who acted on the religion according to his whims and desires, picking and choosing and changing, because he imitated the People of the Book.
_
May Allah ﷻ protect us.
