The Khalifah of the time, asked Abu Haazim,
“What is the matter with us, that we hate death?”
Abu Haazim رحمه الله replied,
“Because you have become busy in prospering in worldly matters, and in turn you have ruined the Akhirah, so now you hate to exit from prosperity to ruin”

سبحان الله
Quite astute and amazing words.
Abu Haazim Al A’raj was a famous Tabi’i, a narrator of Hadith and a Faqih. رحمه الله

Allah ﷻ constantly reminds us of the temporary nature of this world and that the Akhirah is better for those who have Taqwa, indicating that we should have Taqwa.
Allah ﷻ says in the Qur’an:
وَمَا ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنْيَآ إِلَّا لَعِبٌۭ وَلَهْوٌۭ ۖ وَلَلدَّارُ ٱلْءَاخِرَةُ خَيْرٌۭ لِّلَّذِينَ يَتَّقُونَ ۗ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ
And what is the life of this world except play and amusement, certainly the abode of the hereafter is better for those who have Taqwa.
[6:32]
Will you not use your reason?

And in another Ayah,
Allah ﷻ warns us not to be fooled by this world,
إِنَّ وَعْدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقٌّ ۖ فَلَا تَغُرَّنَّكُمُ ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ وَلَا يَغُرَّنَّكُم بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْغَرُورُ
Indeed the promise of Allah is true. So don’t be deceived by the worldly life, nor be deceived about Allah by the one who deceives (Shaytaan).
[35:5]

How do we change this condition we find ourselves in?
We intend with a sincere intention, that everything we do is for the sake of Allah ﷻ.
And we continue to renew this regularly,
Thus we stay away from engaging in worldly sinful matters, as a sin can never be for Allah ﷻ,
And we stay away from delusion as everything becomes for Allah ﷻ, thus our hearts are not attached and blinded.

On top of this, everything for the sake of Allah ﷻ with a sincere intention earns reward, Even intercourse with ones spouse to relieve an urge through Halal means.
May Allah ﷻ grant us ease, forgiveness, make us among those who have Taqwa and grant us Jannah Al Firdous without punishment.
