THE PURPOSE OF LIFE

Dunya in comparison with the Akhira
➖➖➖
Translation:
A message from Allah ﷻ, for whoever loves the Dunya and is heedless of the Akhirah,
إِنَّ هَٰؤُلَاءِ يُحِبُّونَ الْعَاجِلَةَ وَيَذَرُونَ وَرَاءَهُمْ يَوْمًا ثَقِيلًا
Indeed, these [disbelievers] love the immediate and leave behind them a grave Day.
[76:27]
And Allah ﷻ says
يَعْلَمُونَ ظَاهِرًا مِّنَ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَهُمْ عَنِ الْآخِرَةِ هُمْ غَافِلُونَ
They know what is apparent of the worldly life, but they, of the Hereafter, are unaware.
[30:7]
As Saa’di رحمه الله writes regarding this:
They are living as if they weren’t created except for the Dunya and remaining in it.

The Prophet ﷺ advised us against this!
كن في الدنيا كأنك غريب ، أو عابر سبيل
Be in this Dunya as if you are a stranger, or a traveller of a path.
[Sahih Al-Bukhari 6053]

نام رسول الله ﷺ على حصير فقام و قد أثّر في جنبه، فقلنا يا رسول الله لو اتخذنا لك وطاء. فقال ما لي و ما للدنيا ما أنا في الدنيا إلاّ كراكب استظلّ تحت شجرة ثمّ راح وتركها. رواه الترمذي
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sleeping on a mat, then he stood, and the mat had left marks on his side.
We said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! We could get a bed for you.’ He said: ‘What do I have to do with the world! I am not in the world but as a rider seeking shade under a tree, then he catches his breath and leaves it.’
So don’t get attached to the Dunya!

Engage with the worship & obedience of Allah ﷻ and leave the Dunya.
Fulfil your purpose!
وَ مَا خَلَقتُ الجِنَّ وَ الإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعبُدُون
And I did not create Jinn and mankind except to worship me.
[51:56]
_
Store for yourself the currency of the hereafter, and don’t be concerned with that which will perish!
الْمَالُ وَالْبَنُونَ زِينَةُ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا ۖ وَالْبَاقِيَاتُ الصَّالِحَاتُ خَيرٌ عِندَ رَبِّكَ ثَوَابًا وَخَيْرٌ أَمَلًا
Wealth and children are [but] adornment of the worldly life. But the enduring good deeds are better to your Lord for reward and better for [one’s] hope.
[18:46]
Why?
Because the Dunya to the Akhirah is nothing!
وَ الآخِرَةُ خَيرٌ لَّكَ مِنَ الأُولٰى
And the Akhirah is better for you than the first life.
[93:4]

May Allah ﷻ give us forgiveness, grant us safety from all punishments and entry into Jannah al Firdous.
