EPISODE 2⃣ – FOUNDATIONS OF THE CREED OF THE SALAF
The creed of Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama’ah is based upon firm, clear foundation with regards to beliefs, actions and mannerisms. These foundations come from the book of Allāh (ﷻ) and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ). Thus, the foundations of the religion that Ahlus Sunnah adhere to have been explained by the Prophet (ﷺ). It is not allowed for anyone to introduce anything into the religion and claim that it is part of the religion. The foundations of the religion according to the Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama’ah are as follows :
1⃣ The first foundation
- Belief in Allāh (ﷻ), His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, The Last Day and Belief in Al-Qadar (preordainment and decree), both the good and undesirable aspects of it.
Belief in Allāh (ﷻ) means to accept the three aspects of At-tawheed, to believe in them and to implement them, namely:
➡️ Tawheed Ar-Ruboobiyyah (Allāh’s Oneness in Lordship) is in reference to Allāh’s Oneness in His actions of creating the creation, sustaining them, giving them life and causing death to them.
➡️ Tauheedul-Uloohiyyah (Allāh’s Oneness in worship) means that Allāh (ﷻ) is the Only One true God and that everything and everyone worshipped instead of Allāh is false. This section of Tawheed requires directing all acts of worship to Allāh alone and that no one or thing is associated with His worship.
➡️ Tawheed Al-Asmaa wa As-Sifaat (Tawheed of Allāh’s Beautiful Names and Attributes). This is a great type of tawheed. It is to worship Allāh (ﷻ) alone with His beautiful Names and Attributes. It is to think that there is no equivalent to Him, that there is nothing similar to Him, neither in His Names nor His Attributes. The Qur’ān and the Sunnah are filled with verses and ahaadeeth confirming this.
As-salaf as-saalih assert and believe in Allāh’s (ﷻ) Oneness, they know their Lord by His Attributes that are revealed in His Book, or are mentioned by His Messenger (ﷺ). They affirm for Allāh what He affirmed for Himself in His Book or upon the tongue of His Messenger (ﷻ), without likening Him to His creation, describing how His Attributes are, rejecting them, distorting or changing their meanings. Their guiding principle to all of these is Allāh’s (ﷻ) statement:
فَاطِرُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِۚ جَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا وَمِنَ ٱلْأَنْعَٰمِ أَزْوَٰجًاۖ يَذْرَؤُكُمْ فِيهِۚ لَيْسَ كَمِثْلِهِۦ شَىْءٌۖ وَهُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْبَصِيرُ
[He is] Creator of the heavens and the earth. He has made for you from yourselves, mates, and among the cattle, mates; He multiplies you thereby. There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing.
