THE EVIL OF FABRICATED HADITH, ITS TREND ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND ITS DANGER TO THE UMMAH

The Destructive Faith of the Fabricator and the Liars

Haven’t the fabricators and the liars read the following hadith?
Narrated on the authority of Rab’iy ibn Hirāsh, that he heard Alī, رضي الله عنه, giving a Khutbah and he said that the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ, said: ‘Do not lie upon me; indeed whoever lies upon me will enter the Fire’.
[Sahih al-Bukhari, Book 3, Hadith No.106, Sahih Muslim, Hadith No.2]

On the authority of Abū Hurayrah رضي الله عنه, he said, the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ, said: ‘Whoever lies upon me intentionally, then let him take his seat in the Fire’.
[Sahih al-Bukhari, Book 3, Hadith No.110; Sahih Muslim, Hadith No.4]

Al-Mughīrah, the Amīr of al-Kūfah رضي الله عنه reported that Rasulullah ﷺ said: ”Falsely attributing statements to me is unlike falsely attributing statements to anyone else. Whoever tells lies about me deliberately let him take his place in Hell.”
[Narrated by al-Bukhaari, Book 24, Hadith No.1291; Muslim, Hadith No.5]

Many among the scholars are of the opinion that the statement “let him take his place in Hell” means such person will enter Jahannam for a lengthy period of time as Allaah ﷻ pleases and will be removed later on and admitted into Jannah because of the general belief that shirk is the only sin that condemns people to Hell completely.

While many others such as Shaykh Abu Muhammad al-Juwayni and Ibn al-Muneer believes whoever lies against the Prophet ﷺ as commit kufr, may be killed (as in the hadeeth of Burayda) and may abide in Hell forever. Al-Haafiz ibn Hajar commented on these two views in his book al-Fath (1/244). Also Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah discussed it at length in al-Saarim al-Maslool ‘Ala Shaatim il-Rasool (2/328-399).

Notwithstanding, does it matter if the liar will be in Hell for a few minutes, a few hours or a few years? Is there anything that is worth a single second in Allaah’s ﷻ home of tremendous torment?

It is a general responsibility on every believing men and women that when a word is spoken to them of Allaah ﷻ or His Messenger ﷺ and such is not from the Furqan, they should make efforts to verify the authenticity (the truth) about such statement because among men are the Faasiq as Allaah ﷻ said:

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ إِن جَآءَكُمۡ فَاسِقُۢ بِنَبَإٖ فَتَبَيَّنُوٓاْ أَن تُصِيبُواْ قَوۡمَۢا بِجَهَٰلَةٖ فَتُصۡبِحُواْ عَلَىٰ مَا فَعَلۡتُمۡ نَٰدِمِينَ

“O you who have believed, if there comes to you a disobedient one with information, investigate, lest you harm a people out of ignorance and become, over what you have done, regretful.”
[Suratul Al-Hujurat, Ayah 6]

What is the understanding of the Sahaba regarding fabrications and why they mostly refrain from narrating too much?
We shall discuss that in the next episode.
إِنْ شَاءَ ٱللّٰهُ‎
