How to Repent?
Allah ﷻ says in the Qur’an
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ تُوبُوٓاْ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ تَوۡبَةٗ نَّصُوحًا عَسَىٰ رَبُّكُمۡ أَن يُكَفِّرَ عَنكُمۡ سَيِّـَٔاتِكُمۡ وَيُدۡخِلَكُمۡ جَنَّٰتٖ تَجۡرِي مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُ..
O you who have believed, repent to Allah with sincere repentance. Perhaps your Lord will remove from you your misdeeds and admit you into gardens beneath which rivers flow..”
[66:8]
Umar Ibn Khattab رضي الله عنه said, “It is a servant who repents from a sin and never commits it again.”
[Tafsīr al-Ṭabarī 23/107]

Abu Musa رضي الله عنه reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“I never start a new day but that I seek forgiveness from Allah one hundred times during it.”
[Al-Sunan al-Kubrá lil-Nasā’ī 10202, Grade: Sahih according to Al-Albani]

سبحان الله
Repenting to Allah ﷻ is the first step!
_
The power of repentance is such that you won’t see its power until you actually engage in it.
_
It cleanses you!
Washes your soul!
Burns the sins burdening you!
And it is an act of Worship!
_
And Allah ﷻ loves the repentance!
إِنَّ اللهَ يُحِبُّ التَّوَّابِين
Surely Allah loves those who repent.
[2:222]

What are the steps for Repentance?
Firstly, leaving the sin. When you realise that you are guilty of doing an action knowing it to be haraam, you must leave it, stop doing it.
Secondly: you should feel regret because you have disobeyed your Lord and committed a sin.
Thirdly: seek forgiveness from Allah ﷻ.
Fourthly: resolve never to return back to the sin.
Fifthly: if you have taken someone’s right (property or honour), you must return it or recompense it.

The Doors of Repentance are open!
Seek forgiveness before it’s too late.
May Allah ﷻ forgive and have mercy upon us and may He make us among those who sincerely repent.
