Be Like The Sahaba (رضي الله عنهم)
The race has started,
But the race towards what…do you know?
Allah ﷻ says:
سَابِقُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ مَغْفِرَةٍۢ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَجَنَّةٍ عَرْضُهَا كَعَرْضِ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ
Race toward forgiveness from your Lord and a Garden whose width is like the width of the heavens and earth.
[57:21]

We are in a race, not for a medal or money!
_
We are racing towards Allah ﷻ so that He ﷻ may forgive us and enter us into a Jannah the length of which is the heavens and the earth.
_
The Sahaba رضي الله عنهم were only concerned with the race towards the Akhirah!
_
The poor Sahaba رضي الله عنهم one day came to the Prophet ﷺ and they complained: “Oh Messenger of Allah! The wealthy people will get higher grades and permanent enjoyment!”
So he ﷺ said
“And why is that?”
They said “They pray like us and fast as we do. However, they give in charity, whereas we cannot do that, and that free servants, whereas we cannot afford it”
So he ﷺ replied “Shall I tell you of a good deed that, if you acted upon, you would catch up with those who have surpassed you none would overtake you and be better than you, except those who might do the same. Say, “Glorious is Allah ( سبحان الله) Allah is Most Great (الله أكبر) Praise be to Allah (الحمد الله) 33 times each after every Salah.”
They returned and said “Our wealthy brethren heard what we did and they started doing the same.”
So the Prophet ﷺ said
ذَٰلِكَ فَضْلُ ٱللَّهِ يُؤْتِيهِ مَن يَشَآءُ ۚ
This is the favor of Allah that He gives to whom He wills
[62:4]

Look at their concern!
Despite being poor and needy, their concern was the fact that they didn’t have wealth so that they could spend it in Sadaqah like the wealthy!
_
Such was their racing! رضي الله عنهم
_
Let us follow their example!
Imam Qurtubi رحمه الله writes
Race with righteous actions which brings the forgiveness for you from your Lord.
_
Where do you stand with your deeds?
Ya Ibn Adam! Reflect and Repent and race!
The loser is the one who fell behind out of neglect of himself!
_
May Allah ﷻ forgive us, save us from punishment and enter us into Jannah Al Firdous.
آمِيْن يَارَبَّ الْعَالَمِينْ
