Episode 2️⃣: Make a Sincere Believer Your Close Friend
Choosing a bad companion, means that we agree, follow and are pleased with them as friends, and we will eventually inherit their habits, behaviors and even religion.
Allaah (ﷻ) says:
ٱلْأَخِلَّآءُ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوٌّ إِلَّا ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ
Close friends, that Day, will be enemies to each other, except for the righteous
(Az Zukhruf, 43:67)
_ _Ibn Katheer (رحمه الله), commenting on this verse, relates a story on the authority of Ali Ibn Abi Talib (رضي الله عنه) and says that any friendship for other than Allaah is turned into enmity, except what was in it for Allaah the Mighty and Majestic.
“Two who are friends for Allaah (ﷻ)’s sake; when one of them dies and is given good news that he will be granted al-Jannah, he remembers his friend and he supplicates for him, saying: ‘O Allaah, my friend used to command me to obey You and to obey Your Prophet (ﷺ), he used to command me to do good and forbid me from doing evil and he told me that I will meet You.
O Allaah, do not let him go astray after me, until you show him what You have just shown me, until You are satisfied with him, just like You are satisfied with me.’
So he is told: ‘Had you known what is (written) for your friend, you would have laughed a lot and cried a little.’ Then his friend dies and their souls are gathered, and both are asked to express their opinions about each other. So each one of them says to his friend: ‘You were the best brother, the best companion and the best friend.’
And when one of two disbelieving friends dies, and he is given tidings of Hellfire, he remembers his friend and he says: ‘O Allaah, my friend used to order me to disobey You and disobey Your Prophet (ﷺ) and command me to do evil, and forbid me from doing good, and tell me that I would not meet You.
O Allaah (ﷻ) do not guide him after me, until You show him what You have just shown me and until You are dissatisfied with him just like You are dissatisfied with me.’ Then the other disbelieving friend dies, and their souls are gathered, and both are asked to give their opinions about each other. So each one says to his friend: ‘You were the worst brother, the worst companion and the worst friend.”

Allaah (ﷻ) also says:
لَّا تَجِدُ قَوْمًۭا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْءَاخِرِ يُوَآدُّونَ مَنْ حَآدَّ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ وَلَوْ كَانُوٓا۟ ءَابَآءَهُمْ أَوْ أَبْنَآءَهُمْ أَوْ إِخْوَٰنَهُمْ أَوْ عَشِيرَتَهُمْ
You will not find a people who believe in Allaah and the Last Day having affection for those who oppose Allaah and His Messenger, even if they were their fathers or their sons or their brothers or their kindred.
(Al Mujaadilah, 58:22)
When the believer becomes enraged against his relatives, friends or companions and kindred in Allaah (ﷻ)’s cause, He (Allaah) will compensate him by being pleased with him and making him (the believer) pleased with Him from what He has granted him of eternal delight, ultimate victory and encompassing favor.
May Allaah (ﷻ) be pleased with us, make us of the righteous ones and give us companions that will take us away from HIS Wrath and lead us to HIS Pleasure and Paradise.
