UNDESIRABILITY OF WEARING ONE SHOE
Narrated Abu Huraira (رضي الله عنه): Allaah’s Apostle (ﷺ) said, “None of you should walk wearing one shoe; you should either wear them both or take them off both.”
[Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 5856; Sahih Muslim Book 24, Number 5232]
_
From the hadith, we learnt that it is undesirable to wear one shoe in one foot and leave the other foot uncovered because one does not look respectable in this condition, and if he were to be wearing a shoe with heels, he wouldn’t be able to keep a balance in his gait.
What will a man do when he walks on the street and one of his shoes becomes bad? He would take off the bad one to his hand and continue his journey without removing the other pair. No, he shouldn’t do that. He should rather remove both pairs and walk barefooted as reported in the hadith of Abu Razin (رضي الله عنه) that Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) said:
“I bear testimony to the fact that I heard the Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ) saying,“When the thong of one of the shoes of any one of you is cut off, he should not walk with the other until he has got the thong repaired.”
[Sahih Muslim, Book 24, Number 5233]
Also, it was reported in the hadith of Jabir (رضي الله عنه) that: Allaah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said:
“When the thong of the shoe of any one of you is cut off. he should not walk with one sandal until he has got the thong repaired, and he should not walk with one shoe…”
[Sahih Muslim, Book 24, Number 5235]

The best of ways is the way of the Prophet (ﷺ) and whoever follows his lead will not be lost and ruined.
And Allaah (ﷻ) said:
And obey Allaah and the Messenger that you may obtain mercy.
[Aal-E-Imran, 3:132]
And He (ﷻ) said:
… And whatever the Messenger has given you – take; and what he has forbidden you – refrain from…
[Al-Hashr, 59:7]
He who obeys the Messenger has obeyed Allaah…
[An-Nisa’, 4:80]
Allaah (ﷻ) continues in another ayah;
Say, “Obey Allaah and obey the Messenger; but if you turn away – then upon him is only that [duty] with which he has been charged, and upon you is that with which you have been charged. And if you obey him, you will be [rightly] guided. And there is not upon the Messenger except the [responsibility for] clear notification.”
[An-Nur, 24:54]
