Allah ﷻ says
مَنْ عَمِلَ صَالِحًا مِّن ذَكَرٍ أَوْ أُنثَى وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَلَنُحْيِيَنَّهُ حَيَاةً طَيِّبَةً
Whoever does good, whether male or female, and is a believer, We shall certainly make him live a good life,
[16:97]
Ali and Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنهم both were of the the opinion this meant, “Contentment”
Ad-Dahhak رحمه الله also said “Working to obey Allah and finding joy in that”

Similarly Allah ﷻ says
فَمَنِ اتَّبَعَ هُدَايَ فَلَا يَضِلُّ وَلَا يَشْقَى
Whoever follows my guidance, he shall neither suffer [In Dunya] nor go astray [In Hereafter]
[20:123]

Even if theres no money in your pocket and you have nothing but Allah, He ﷻ is sufficient.
Look at the Sahaba رضي الله عنهم, many were poor!
Yet, they became the most powerful force in the world to be reckoned with,
They found happiness in Death!
They lived and breathed the Hadith
الدنيا سجن المؤمن و جنة الكافر
“The world is a prison for the believer and a paradise for the unbeliever.”
[Ṣahih Muslim 2956]

Wallahi, we don’t feel this because we have been born into a religion and we have been taught it, and we have come to take it for granted even though it is the greatest Blessing.
_
While we think that obedience to Allah ﷻ and a restriction of desires is a chore!
The Sahaba رضي الله عنهم found their purpose and their sole source of happiness in this one thing.

The good souls are happily welcomed back
Allah ﷻ says in Surah Al-Fajr
يأَيَّتُهَا النَّفْسُ الْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ ▪️ارْجِعِى إِلَى رَبِّكِ
O contented soul! Come back to your Lord.
Meaning, to His company, His reward and what He has prepared for His servants in His Paradise.
رَّاضِيَةٍ
well-pleased
Meaning, with what Allah ﷻ has rewarded them with.
مَّرْضِيَّةً
well-pleasing.
Meaning, pleased with Allah ﷻ, and He will be pleased with it and gratify it.
فَادْخُلِى فِى عِبَادِى
Enter then among My servants,
Meaning, among their ranks.
وَٱدۡخُلِی جَنَّتِی
And enter My Paradise!
[89:27-30]
This will be said to it at the time of death and on the Day of Judgement. This is like the angels giving glad tiding to the believer at his time of death and when he rises from his grave.
_
Allah ﷻ calls out to the contented Soul! The one that inclines only to Good and forbids itself from Evil!
_
This is where true happiness lies.
