Dua After Burying The Deceased
Uthman Bin ‘Affan (رضي الله عنه) reported that when the Prophet (ﷺ) finished a burial, he would stand over the grave and say:
“Ask forgiveness for your brother, and that he be firm (in his answers), because he is being questioned now.”
[Recorded by Abu Dawud 3221, al-Hakim, and others. Verified to be authentic by al Albāni in Ahkām ul-Janaiz p. 198 & Saheeh al-Jami’, no. 4760]
So one can say:
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَهُ الَّلهُمَّ 600
Allaahum-maghfir lahu Allaahumma thabbithu
(O Allah, forgive him. O Allah, strengthen him)
After completing the burial, it is recommended to stand near the grave for a while and supplicate for the deceased. It is not recommended to prompt the dead person to say things to the angels who would be questioning him then! [There is a report in that regard indicating that one should instruct the deceased to say certain things, but it may not be used, because it is extremely weak, as verified by al-Albāni (as-Silsilah ad-Da’ifah no. 599)]
When he approached death, ‘Amr Bin al-As (رضي الله عنه) said:
“After you bury me, stand around my grave for as long as it takes to slaughter a camel and distribute its meat; I will thus be comforted by your presence while I respond to my Lord’s Messengers (the two angels).”

It is not legislated on this occasion that anything from the Qur’ān be recited, nor that the deceased be reminded of his proof [i.e. the words of Shahādah] – as is practiced by some of the people. There is no Hadeeth which confirms this practice.
Rather, that which is legislated on this occasion as has preceded – is seeking forgiveness for the deceased and asking Allah to make him firm [at the time of questioning by the angels].
