Reflect on ourselves..
What have we done to please Allah?
What should have we done better?
What should we have avoided?
_
We need to be honest with ourselves and we need to be stern and firm against ourselves and not let ourselves off easily.
That is Discipline
_
Because Reflection leads to Repentance.
We sit and we reflect and we realise I haven’t picked up the Qur’an today, so you go and you pick up the Qur’an.
We realise we haven’t prayed any Salah today, so we go and we pray our Salah.
We realise we sinned doing so and so, so we make Tawbah and do Istighfaar.
_
Because if we do not do this regularly, what happens is, we become indifferent to our ownselves. We gain apathy for the Deeds we accumulate.
We no longer strive towards good nor do we strive to abstain from evil.
_
Reflection, Repentance and the Dhikr of Allah keeps the heart soft and humble.
But when we do not do it, our hearts become Hard and arrogant and it becomes even harder on us to be righteous.
Repent? Why?
This is all so we do not regret ourselves later because we didn’t reflect or repent.
_
As Allah says
كُلُّ نَفْسٍۢ ذَآئِقَةُ ٱلْمَوْتِ ۗ
Every Soul shall taste death.
[3:185]
And in another Ayah Allah says
يَقُولُ يَٰلَيْتَنِى قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِى
He will say, “Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life.”
[89:24]
Because when our Soul reaches the collarbone, that is it. Repentance is no longer a door that is open for us.
That is why we must repent regularly.
_
Because there will come a people on Qiyamah who will say, As Allah states in the Qur’an
رَبَّنَآ أَبْصَرْنَا وَسَمِعْنَا فَٱرْجِعْنَا نَعْمَلْ صَٰلِحًا إِنَّا مُوقِنُونَ
Our lord! We have now seen and heard! So send us back so we may do righteous deeds!
[32:12]
These are the regretful miserable people who forgot Allah in the Dunya, and they will regret it soon.
We must strive not to be amongst them.
_
This will only happen through righteous action and repentance.
Ya Ibn Adam! Tawbah is for the Ahlul Jannah! So make Tawbah excessively.
Ya Allah forgive us all and make us among Ahlul Jannah
