Allah ﷻ says in the Glorious Qur’an:
أَلْهَىٰكُمُ ٱلتَّكَاثُرُ
The multiplication of wealth diverts you
Meaning the Striving to increase ones wealth in the Dunya is a distraction for you away from Allah ﷻ.
حَتَّىٰ زُرْتُمُ ٱلْمَقَابِرَ
Until you visit the graves
[102:1-2]
Meaning you will be distracted until you visit the graves dead or alive.

It will serve as a reminder when you are alive, that everything is temporary and everything will come to an end.
And it will serve as the mark of the end of the life which you spent striving to increase wealth, it will serve as the next stopping point for the soul as it journeys further into Al Akhirah, waiting for Yawm Al Qiyamah.
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَكْثِرُوا ذِكْرَ هَاذِمِ اللَّذَّاتِ ، يَعْنِي الْمَوْتَ
Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Remember often the destroyer of pleasures,” by which he meant death.
[Sunan al-Tirmidhī 2307, Grade: Sahih]

Remembering death brings us back to the real world, it creates Taqwa and makes us remember Allah ﷻ, therefore allowing us to stop sinning.
_
Whenever you’re about to sin, remember Fir’awn and how Allah ﷻ drowned him in the Nile and caused his body to be thrown about and preserved in a museum for us to see.
_
If you’re about to sin remember that when the people of Jannah and Jahannam are placed and it is all settled, Death will be brought in the form of a lamb in front of all to see and will be slaughtered, to remind that there will be no more death, the eternal abodes are what we have earned.
_
Reflect and ask which side do you want to be on when the Angel of Death is slaughtered?
In Joy because you will spend eternity in eternal bliss?
Or in woe because you will spend your term in a disgraceful punishment?
_
Remember Oh Ibn Adam! Life is like the time between the Adhaan and Salah!
_
May Allah ﷻ guide us all and make us among the righteous.
آمِيْن يَارَبَّ الْعَالَمِينْ
