﷽
INTRODUCTION
●تَبَٰرَكَ ٱلَّذِي بِيَدِهِ ٱلۡمُلۡكُ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيۡءٖ قَدِيرٌ
ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَ ٱلۡمَوۡتَ وَٱلۡحَيَوٰةَ لِيَبۡلُوَكُمۡ أَيُّكُمۡ أَحۡسَنُ عَمَلٗاۚ وَهُوَ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلۡغَفُورُ
Blessed is He in whose hand is dominion, and He is over all things competent. [He] who created death and life to test you [as to] which of you is best in deed. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Forgiving.
(Al-Mulk 67:1-2)
Life is full of struggles, challenges and obstacles. In these moments, we need to ease the tension in our minds and slow down our racing hearts.
لَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ فِي كَبَدٍ
We have certainly created man into hardship.
(Al-Balad 90:4)
Life is a test. Allaah tests us with prosperity and adversity. The way we respond during these varying moments depicts our level of eemaan, and our perseverance during hardship will enable us to attain a lot of reward.
أَحَسِبَ ٱلنَّاسُ أَن يُتۡرَكُوٓاْ أَن يَقُولُوٓاْ ءَامَنَّا وَهُمۡ لَا يُفۡتَنُونَ
Do the people think that they will be left to say, “We believe” and they will not be tried?
وَلَقَدۡ فَتَنَّا ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡۖ فَلَيَعۡلَمَنَّ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ صَدَقُواْ وَلَيَعۡلَمَنَّ ٱلۡكَٰذِبِينَ
But We have certainly tried those before them, and Allaah will surely make evident those who are truthful, and He will surely make evident the liars.
(Al-Ankaboot 29:2-3)
What attributes will help us during these trying moments?
In this series, we will discuss some of these traits every believer should be mindful of during the ‘hard’ times.
Al-Hasan al-Basri (رحمه الله ) said: “Do not resent the calamities that come and the disasters that occur, for perhaps in something that you dislike will be your salvation, and perhaps in something that you prefer will be your doom.”
May Allaah (ﷻ) ease our affairs and make Jannah our final abode.
