DUA FOR THE NIGHT OF DECREE (LAYLATUL QADR) | DUA SEEKING FORGIVENESS
__
Aisha رضي الله عنه reported: I said, “O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, if I know which night is the Night of Decree, what should I say during it?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Say:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
Allahumma innaka ‘a’fuwwun tuhibbul ‘afwa fa a‘fu ‘anni
O Allaah, You are forgiving and You love forgiveness, so forgive me
[Narrated by Sunan al-Tirmidhi 3513, Nisaee in ‘Amal al-Yawm wa Layla’, Ibn Majah 3850 and Musnad Ahmed, 42/236, No. 25384, Tirmidhi said: this hadeeth is Hasan Saheeh.’ & Al-Albaani in Silsilah Saheehah no. 3337 & Saheeh al-Tirmidhi, 3/170]
Note: This dua is not specific for Ramadan and can be said anytime in and out of Ramadan.
Shaykh Al-Albani says in Saheeha 3337 “There occurs in ‘Sunnan Tirmidhi’ after the word ‘pardon’ an extra word: (kareemun) ‘generously’! There is no origin for this word in any of the preceding sources mentioned, or in any other books from which this narration has been quoted.”
