EPISODE 4️⃣7️⃣ – AL-ZAMZAM
⛲ Located approximately 20 m (66 ft) east of the Ka’aba, within the Masjid al-Haram in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
⛲ The miraculous well was a gift to Hajar, the second wife of Nabiy Ibraheem (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) and her son Nabiy Ismaheel (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ).
⛲ According to tradition, when Ibraaheem (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) followed the commandment of his Lord and left them (Hajar and Ismaheel) on the desert.
⛲ It came the time the child was in dire need of water. While Hajar ran between the two Mount (Safar and Marwa) in search of water, Allaah (ﷻ) cursed the earth under the child’s feet to spring out water in abundance.
⛲ The spring flows so much that Hajar became scared the water is going to run out at some point, and she tried containing it repeatedly saying “زم زم” meaning “stay stay”. It is indeed from this Hajar statement that the well got its name Zamzam.
⛲ The spring became a well by which other travellers were attracted and encouraged to create settlement around it. Hence, the establishment of the city of Makkah.
⛲ When the commandment came to Nabiy Ibraaheem (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) from his Lord to rebuild the house, the Baytullaah was built near the well. Although, it is more correct to say Allaah (ﷻ) has caused the well to sprang from within the location of the house.
⛲ At a time in history, Allaah (ﷻ) caused the well to disappear. Shaybah ibn Hashim (Abd al-Muttalib), the grandfather of the Prophet (ﷺ) was again inspired via a dream to again dig the well.
⛲ The water from the well is believed in Islam to be the best water on earth.
Abdullaah Ibn Abbas (رضي الله عنه) reported: The Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ) said, “The best water on the face of the earth is Zamzam water. In it is food for nourishment and healing for illness.”
[al-Mu’jam al-Kabīr 11011. Graded Sahih according to al-Albani]
A similar hadith was reported in the lengthy hadith of Abdullah ibn Samit (رضي الله عنه) about the statement of Abu Dharr (رضي الله عنه) when he came to Makkah in Sahih Muslim, Book 44, Hadith 189.
⛲ The Zamzam is also a distinction between the believers and the hypocrites.
Abdllaah Ibn Abbas (رضي الله عنه) reported: The Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ) said, “Verily, a sign between us and the hypocrites is that they do not drink Zamzam water.”
[Sunan Ibn Majah 3061. Graded Sahih according to Al-Suyuti]
⛲ Among many other tradition, the water from the well is among the blessings of Allaah (ﷻ) upon the believers.
