GAINING TAQWA

The quality of Ahlul Jannah
➖➖➖
Allah ﷻ says in Surah Al-Qamar
إِنَّ الْمُتَّقِينَ فِي جَنَّاتٍ وَنَهَرٍ
Verily, those who have Taqwa, will be in the midst of Gardens and Rivers.
Unlike those that Allah ﷻ mentions earlier in the passage, who will be dragged on their faces and thrown into the hellfire, the people of Jannah will be dignified and raised to sit on thrones in Jannah.
فِى مَقْعَدِ صِدْقٍ
In a seat of truth,
in the Dwelling of Allah’s honor, encompassed by His pleasure, favors, bounties, generosity and compassion
عِندَ مَلِيكٍ مُّقْتَدِرِ
near the Muqtadir King
meaning with the Magnificent King Who created everything and measured its destiny; He is able to grant them whatever they wish and ask for.
[54:54-55]

Allah ﷻ says in the Qu’ran:
وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ الَّذِي أَنْتُمْ بِهِ مُؤْمِنُونَ
and have Taqwa of Allah in Whom you believe.
[5:88]

And in another Surah:
وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ الَّذِي تَسَاءَلُونَ بِهِ وَالْأَرْحَامَ
And have Taqwa of Allah through Whom you demand your mutual (rights) and revere the wombs
[4:1]
Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنه says “Fear Allah and be friendly to the those you have ties of the womb with”

Allah ﷻ mentions Taqwa…
Why?
Taqwa is what makes the difference between Jannah and Jahannam, and the ranks of Jannah!
More Taqwa means Higher Rank in Jannah!

A man asked Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه “What is Taqwa?”
He رضي الله عنه replied “Have you ever taken a path filled with thorns?” The man replied, “I have.” Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه asked him, “What did you do?” He replied, “When I saw a thorn I would dodge it or pass over it or behind it.” Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه then said, “That is al-Taqwa.”

So we really have to ask ourselves,
This path that we are walking is filled with many thorns, that sting more than ever!
Yet are we making an effort to avoid them?

For having Taqwa, leads to Ihsaan in Ibadah,
As Prophet ﷺ said “To worship Allah as if you see him, though you don’t but you know He sees you”
[Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 8]
One of the Salaf recited
خَرُّوا سُجَّدًا وَبُكِيًّا
they fell down prostrate and weeping.
[19:58]
Then he prostrated, and asked, this is the Sajdah, where is the weeping?

Once we gain Taqwa and Ihsaan! Our Ibadah becomes sweeter and with better Khushoo’ and the greater the reward in Jannah!
