﷽
Advise of Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen (رحمه الله)
Allah ﷻ says in the Qur’an
وَخُلِقَ الإِنسَانُ ضَعِيفًا
And Mankind was created weak
[4:28]
Our Natural Fitrah includes “شهوة” or Desires, base desires that we all have, which we all feel the pull of it from time to time.
_
What separates us as humans from Animals is that we don’t act upon our Desires without Inhibition.
But the key separation occurs between the Mu’min and the Kafir, where the Mu’min strives to control and subjugate this desire for the sake of Allah ﷻ to preserve his Hayaa.
While the Kafir will act upon his desires as he likes and will do whatever he wants without fearing the consequences, because he does not believe.
_
In our day and age, the society is hyper-sexualised and everything is open and nothing is left to the imagination.
We must strive for the sake of Allah ﷻ to guard ourselves against this Evil of Shaytaan.
_
The Shaykh advised getting married as soon as possible so you can fulfil your desires in a Halal way,
Then the Shaykh advised fasting.
We all joke about saying Get Married or Die Fasting, but the reality of it is, that Fasting diminishes desire and there are no shortcuts with it.
Abdullah ibn Mas’ud reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “O young men, if you are able to support a wife, get married. Verily, it lowers the gaze and guards chastity. Whoever is not able to do so, he must fast as it will restrain his passions.”
[Sahih al-Bukhārī 1806, Sahih Muslim 1400]
He then advised Distance from such things which trigger our lust, the images on the TV, the magazines etc.
_
It has become such that Lewdness has penetrated speech, so you must avoid people if you have to!
He also advised distraction from idle thoughts. Keeping oneself occupied is paramount, otherwise our thoughts can corrupt us.
_
Here are tips that we can go by and use in our daily life, maybe it will benefit you.
- Stay in a state of whudu
- Dhikr of Allah [Learn the morning and evening adhkaar]
- Some physical reminder of Allah ﷻ, like something Islamic as your wallpaper.
- Good company
- Seeking knowledge
- Occupying yourself with any other activities you can find, even if it means sitting down and reading a book.
- Attending lectures whenever you get the chance or listening to it through the phone.
_
Desires like these are so dangerous which is why we must be Vigilant against them.
_
Ya Ibn Adam! A person who avoids sins but completes only his Faraa’idh is better than the one who is excessive in worship but ruined by sins.
May Allah ﷻ guide us all.
