Story of Malik ibn Dinar (رحمه الله) and The Thief
A thief entered the house of Malik ibn Dinar (رحمه الله), he found nothing [and] was going to leave. Malik ibn Dinar called,
“Peace be upon you.”, [the thief] said,
“And upon you be peace.”, [Malik ibn Dinar] said,
“You did not attain anything from the world, do you desire something from the Hereafter?” [The thief] replied,
نعم
“Yes.”, [Malik ibn Dinar] said,
“Make ablution from this sink and pray two units of prayer, and ask Allaah for forgiveness.” He [the thief] did so, then said,
“O’ sir, can I stay until the morning?”
Afterwards when they left for the masjid, his companions asked him,
“Who is that with you?”, [Malik ibn Dinar] said,
“He came to steal from me, so I stole him.”
