A Proof For You or Against You

Jabir رضي الله عنه reported: The Prophet ﷺ said: “The Quran is an intercessor and a truthful prosecutor. Whoever puts it in front of himself, it will lead him to Paradise. Whoever throws it behind his back, it will drive him into the Hellfire.”
[Sahih Ibn Ḥibbān 124]
_
And Allah ﷻ says

إِنَّ هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنَ يَهْدِي لِلَّتِي هِيَ أَقْوَمُ

Indeed this Qur’an guides to that which is most upright.
[17:9]
_
Attach your hearts to the Qur’an,and you will reap its benefits!
_
The Qur’an heals an aching heart,
It is a guiding light for the one drowning in darkness,
It is a Dhikr by which a person is raised countless ranks!
_
The Prophet ﷺ gives a comparison for us to ponder,
Abu Musa al-Ashari رضي الله عنه reported: The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The parable of the believer who recites the Quran is that of a citrus fruit, which tastes good and has a pleasant scent. The parable of the believer who does not recite the Quran is that of a date, which has no scent but tastes good. The parable of a hypocrite who recites the Quran is that of basil, which has a pleasant scent but tastes bitter. The parable of the hypocrite who does not recite the Quran is that of a vine, which has no scent and tastes bitter.”
[Sahih al-Bukhārī 5059, Sahih Muslim 797]
_
So recite Qur’an and reach the higher ranks!
Recite the Qur’an and receive intercession from it!
Whether you are proficient or you struggle!
Aisha رضي الله عنها reported: The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The example of one who recites the Quran and memorizes it is that of one with the ‘righteous and noble scribes’ (80:15). The example of one who recites the Quran and is committed to it, although it is difficult for him, is that of one with a double reward.”
[Sahih al-Bukhārī 4937, Sahih Muslim 798]
_
Abu Maalik al-Ash‘ari said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

القرآن حجة لك أو عليك

The Qur’an is a proof for you or against you.
[Sahih Muslim 223]

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen رحمه الله said:
Either it will be for you, if you sought to draw close to Allah means of it, and you fulfilled the obligations towards the Holy Qur’an, namely believing its stories, obeying its commands, heeding its prohibitions and venerating and respecting the Holy Qur’an, in which case it will be proof for you,
Or it will be the opposite, if you disrespected the Qur’an and neglected its words and meanings and failed to act upon it, and you did not fulfil the obligations towards it. In that case it will be a witness against you on the Day of Resurrection.
[Sharh Riyadh as-Saaliheen, p. 30]
_
And the loser is the one who is dragged into the fire, due to his neglect of the Qur’an!
_
Ya Ibn Adam! Fulfil the rights of the Qur’an lest it testifies against you.

  1. Recite & memorise it
  2. Understand it
  3. Act upon it

Don’t let it go!
