Why not Repent?

Allah ﷻ opens the door of Repentance for the ones whom He ﷻ wishes. Allah ﷻ says in the Qur’an:

The forgiver of sin, acceptor of repentance, severe in punishment, owner of abundance. There is no deity except Him; to Him is the destination.
[40:3]
_
Abu Huraira رضي الله عنه reported Allah’s Messenger ﷺ as saying:
Allah is more delighted at the repentance of His servant than one of you who lost his riding animal on a journey in a barren land while it carries his food and drink.
[Sahih Muslim 2747]

Allah ﷻ also talks about the People of the Ditch

Surely those who put to trial the believing men and women,

Then don’t repent,

For them is the punishment of Hell, and for them is a burning chastisement.
[85:10]
_
Ibn Kathir رحمه الله quotes the statement of Hasan Al Basri رحمه الله “Al-Hasan Al-Basri said, “Look at this generosity and kindness. These people killed Allah’s Awliya’ and He still invites them to make repentance and seek forgiveness.”
_
If Allah ﷻ calls the people of Shirk,
and those who murder the believers to enter the door of repentance so that He may forgive them,
What of you and I? Believers, only harming ourselves with sins and disobedience?
_
Allah ﷻ commands!

Don’t despair in the mercy of Allah!
[39:53]

A Hadith to finally drill the point

Jabir ibn Abdullah رضي الله عنه reported: A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and he said, “O my sins! O my sins!” The Prophet (ﷺ) said to him,

“Say: O Allah, your forgiveness is vaster than my sins, and your mercy is more hopeful to me than my deeds.”
The man said it, then the Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Repeat it.” The man repeated it, then the Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Repeat it again.” The man repeated it, then the Prophet( ﷺ) said, “Stand up, for Allah has forgiven you.”
[Shu’ab al-Imān 6622, Grade: Sahih according to Al-Suyuti]

May Allah ﷻ forgive all our shortcomings and grant us His Mercy.
