But Do Not Persist in Your Transgression

Allah ﷻ says in Surah Al-Imran
وَٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا فَعَلُواْ فَٰحِشَةً أَوۡ ظَلَمُوٓاْ أَنفُسَهُمۡ ذَكَرُواْ ٱللَّهَ فَٱسۡتَغۡفَرُواْ لِذُنُوبِهِمۡ
And those who, when they commit an immorality or wrong themselves [by transgression], remember Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins
[3:135]
Anas ibn Malik رضي الله عنه said “I was told when this Ayah was revealed, Iblis cried.”

Al-Bara’ reported: A man said to him, “O Abu ‘Umarah, the verse: Do not throw yourself to destructions by your own hands (2:195). Is it a man who meets the enemy in battle and he fights until he is killed?” Al-Bara’ said, “No, rather it is that a man commits a sin and he says: Allah will not forgive me.”
[Shu’ab al-Imān 6691]

The ayah continues..
وَمَن يَغۡفِرُ ٱلذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ
and who can forgive sins except Allah?
وَلَمۡ يُصِرُّواْ عَلَىٰ مَا فَعَلُواْ وَهُمۡ يَعۡلَمُونَ
and [who] do not persist in what they have done while they know.
[3:135]
Meaning, they repent from their error, return to Allah ﷻ before death, do not insist on error, and if they err again, they repent from it again.

Shaddad ibn Aws رضي الله عنه reported: The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The wise man is one who holds himself accountable and performs good deeds to prepare for what comes after death. The foolish man is one who gives into his lowly desires and seeks their indulgence from Allah.”
[Sunan al-Tirmidhī 2459, Grade: Hasan (fair)]

Meaning, He Sins and while Sinning he thinks that Allah ﷻ will forgive him so why not just go ahead and do more sins.
This is foolish to think anyone can outsmart the All-Knowing, All-Hearing Allah ﷻ.

Allah ﷻ will only forgive if you are sincere.
Anas ibn Malik رضي الله عنهreported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Allah Almighty said: O son of Adam, if you call upon Me and place your hope in Me, I will forgive you despite what is within you and I will not hesitate. O son of Adam, if you have sins piling up to the clouds and then ask for My forgiveness, I will forgive you without hesitation. O son of Adam, if you come to Me with enough sins to fill the earth and then you meet Me without associating anything with Me, I will come to you with enough forgiveness to fill the earth.”
[Sunan al-Tirmidhī 3540, Grade: Sahih]

May Allah ﷻ forgive our shortcomings and make us among the sincere.
