The Third type of Patience

Today we shall look into the third type of Patience.

صبر في المصيبة

Patience in Difficulty.

Allaah ﷻ says in Surah Yusuf

وَجَآءُو عَلَىٰ قَمِيصِهِۦ بِدَمٍۢ كَذِبٍۢ ۚ قَالَ بَلْ سَوَّلَتْ لَكُمْ أَنفُسُكُمْ أَمْرًۭا ۖ فَصَبْرٌۭ جَمِيلٌۭ ۖ وَٱللَّهُ ٱلْمُسْتَعَانُ عَلَىٰ مَا تَصِفُونَ

And they brought his shirt, stained with false blood. He responded, “No! Your souls must have tempted you to do something evil. So I can only endure with beautiful patience! It is Allaah’s help that I seek to bear your claims.”
[12:18]

Imagine.
As a Parent, the news that your Child is no longer with you! How great will be your grief?
How great was the grief of Ya’qub عليه السلام yet he sought Refuge and Help from Allaah ﷻ.
To put it into perspective, Ya’qub عليه السلام eventually went blind from crying and grieving continually over Yusuf عليه السلام!

Yet, throughout the Surah, Ya’qub عليه السلام exemplifies Tawakkul!

Allaah ﷻ says further on,
That Ya’qub عليه السلام told his Sons,

عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَلْتُ وَ عَلَيْهِ فَلْيَتَوَكِّلِ الْمُتَوَكِّلُوْن

On Him (Allaah) do I rely, and on Him let those who are Reliant, Rely.
[12:67]

Look at the Patience of Ya’qub عليه السلام, and we must follow that example in whatever situation.

Look at Prophet Muhammad ﷺ!
When he was in Makkah Al Mukarramah,
Imagine the grief and the stress, when he lost Abu Talib, Khadijah رضي الله عنه and his two sons that she gave birth to! And on top that, Qur’aysh were not Heeding his Message!
And all in such a short time!

Yet Prophet ﷺ was comforted by Allaah ﷻ
What did Allaah ﷻ say?

مَاوَدَّعَكَ رَبُّكَ وَ مَا قَلَىٰ

Your Lord has not forsaken you, Nor is He displeased.
[93:3]

Didn’t Allaah ﷻ also tell him

فَاِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا

For indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.

اِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا

Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.
[94:5-6]

Let the Qur’an comfort you as it comforted Prophet ﷺ.

Prophet ﷺ said in a Beautiful Hadith
“How amazing is the affair of the believer. There is good for him in everything and that is for no one but the believer. If good times come his way, he expresses gratitude to Allaah and that is good for him, and if hardship comes his way, he endures it patiently, and that is better for him.”
[Sahih Muslim 2999]

May Allaah ﷻ keep us steadfast upon His Deen and grant us beautiful patience and forgive all our shortcomings.
