Allah ﷻ says in the Qur’an:
وَوَصَّىٰ بِهَآ إِبْرَٰهِۦمُ بَنِيهِ وَيَعْقُوبُ
And this (Islam) was enjoined by Ibrahim upon his sons and by Ya`qub.
يَٰبَنِىَّ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ ٱصْطَفَىٰ لَكُمُ ٱلدِّينَ فَلَا تَمُوتُنَّ إِلَّا وَأَنتُم مُّسْلِمُونَ
(Saying) “O my sons! Allah has chosen for you the (true) religion, then die not except as Muslims”
[2:132]
Meaning, perform righteous deeds during your lifetime and remain on this path, so that Allah ﷻ will endow you with the favor of dying upon it. Usually, one dies upon the path that he lived on and is resurrected according to what he died on.

Why is this so important?
The Crux of this Deen lies in its message of Tawheed, and whoever dies upon it has succeeded in fulfilling the above advice of the Ambiya عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ.

These words are weighty in the heart of believer in the Dunya and in the Akhirah when sincere.
It makes the enemies of Allah ﷻ angry, it makes the Shaytaan tremble and run with fear.
_
As Allah ﷻ says in a Hadith Qudsi
“O son of Adam, if you come to me with enough sins to fill the earth and you meet me without associating a partner with me, I will come to you with enough forgiveness to fill the earth.”
[Sunan al-Tirmidhī 3540]

The Key here is, “Not associating partners with me”
_
Shirk doesn’t necessarily have to be in the traditional form of declaring partners with Allah ﷻ,
If you make others higher than Allah ﷻ by doing ‘Amal because you see them watching,
_
Allah ﷻ says about the Munafiqeen,
فَوَيْلٌۭ لِّلْمُصَلِّينَ▪ الَّذِينَ هُمْ عَن صَلَـتِهِمْ سَاهُونَ
Woe to those who pray, those who are unmindful of their prayers.
الَّذِينَ هُمْ يُرَآءُونَ
Those who do good deeds only to be seen
[107:5-7]
If you were to engage in the Shirk of other religions out of respect, like their festivals etc.
This can lead to, and sometimes is Shirk!

And how better else to make the Shahada more firm, more grounded, more sincere in our hearts other than seeking knowledge, in order to recognise Allah ﷻ and be able to worship Him as He should be worshipped and allow us to avoid the traps of Shaytaan, and thwart his efforts!

Tawheed is Everything
May Allah ﷻ keep us steadfast and protect us from both Major shirk as well as Minor shirk.
آمِيْن يَارَبَّ الْعَالَمِينْ
