Allah ﷻ says
وَلَوْ تَرَىٰٓ إِذْ وُقِفُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلنَّارِ
And if you could see, when they are held over the fire.
[6:27]
They haven’t even entered the Fire!
They have only seen it!
They will say
يَٰلَيْتَنَا نُرَدُّ
Would that we were but sent back!
وَلَا نُكَذِّبَ بِـَٔايَٰتِ رَبِّنَا وَنَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
Then we would not deny the Ayat of our Lord, and we would be of the believers!
[6:27]
They wish that they would be sent back to the life of the world so that they could perform righteous deeds, refrain from disbelieving in the Ayat of their Lord and be among the believers.
_
Ponder over yourselves!
Do I want to be among these people?
_
Consider,
That these people haven’t even entered it, yet they already wish and beg for a second chance!
_
These sinners who didn’t repent!
These arrogant ones who turned away from Allah ﷻ and the Prophet ﷺ!
_
They will stand on Qiyamah saying
ياليتني!
Oh that I wish!
_
In another passage, Allah ﷻ again describes this
وَجِا۟ىٓءَ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِجَهَنَّمَ
And on that day when the Hellfire is brought
يَوْمَئِذٍۢ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ
On that Day will man remember,
Meaning, his deeds, and what he did before in his past and recent times.
وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ
but how will that remembrance avail him
[89:23]
_
Abdullah Ibn Mas’ud رضي الله عنه said reported that Prophet ﷺ said
“Hell will be brought on near that Day and it will have seventy thousand leashes, and each leash will have seventy thousand angels pulling it”
[At-Tirmidhi]
_
يَقُولُ يَٰلَيْتَنِى قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِى
He will say: “Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!”
[89:24]
_
In yet another passage, Allah ﷻ says
يَوْمَ يَنظُرُ الْمَرْءُ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ
The Day when man will see that which his hands have sent forth.
وَيَقُولُ ٱلْكَافِرُ يَٰلَيْتَنِى كُنتُ تُرَٰبًۢا
And the Kafir will say, “Woe to me I wish I were Dust!”
[78:40]
_
Ponder over these verses.
May Allah ﷻ protect us from the Hellfire.
آمِيْن يَارَبَّ الْعَالَمِينْ
