The Hadith of Thawban رضي الله عنه
Listen to this Hadith:
Narrated Thawban رضي الله عنه:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: The people will soon summon one another to attack you as people when eating invite others to share their dish. Someone asked: Will that be because of our small numbers at that time? He replied: No, you will be numerous at that time: but you will be scum and rubbish like that carried down by a torrent, and Allah will take fear of you from the breasts of your enemy and last enervation into your hearts. Someone asked: What is wahn (enervation). Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): He replied:
حُبُّ الدُّنْيَا وَكَرَاهِيَةُ الْمَوْتِ
Love of the world and dislike of death.
[Sunan Abi Dawud 4297, Grade: Sahih]

الوهن
Prophet ﷺ said such an amazing prediction in this Hadith.
Look at the Ummah now, we ARE attacked so much it is casual, it is normal.
And as we live in the west, we are told muslims are terrorists because the countries we live in fight them, So we hate them too!
_
And we are numerous in number, we say with great pride 1.9 Billion strong Ummah. But why are we proud of an Ummah that is humiliated, starving, deprived and without any unity?
_
And why are we proud of an Ummah that has left the Kitaab and Sunnah behind, an Ummah where the majority of people run after Dunya?
_
Linguistically, الوهن means weakness/ Rustiness and The Messenger of Allah ﷺ described it as Love for the Dunya.
_
And so we see from this الوهن or weakness is the same as Loving the Dunya and hating death.
_
And what does this weakness of loving the Dunya result in?
Allah ﷻ says in the Qur’an
فَأَمَّا مَن طَغَىٰ
And whoever transgresses
وَءَاثَرَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا
And prefers the life of this world
فَإِنَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ هِىَ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰ
Then the Fire is his Abode.
[79:37-39]

Transgression is made synonymous with the Love of Dunya, because once someone loves the Dunya over Allah ﷻ then he will do anything and everything and transgress all limits to attain the Dunya.
_
Allah ﷻ also points out how Sins cover the heart with weakness and rustiness and make us more attached to Dunya
كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ ۜ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ
Nay! There is a rustiness over their hearts because of what they used to do.
[83:14]

And again Allah ﷻ points out our stupidity,
بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا
But Nay! You prefer the life of this world
وَٱلْءَاخِرَةُ خَيْرٌۭ وَأَبْقَىٰٓ
When the Akhirah is better and everlasting.
[87:16-17]

As if to say, O Ibn Adam, what goes through your mind that you choose a temporary enjoyment of this world over the eternal enjoyment of Jannah?
_
All of this tells us one thing, if we fall in love with the Dunya, if we begin to choose our whims and desires over Allah ﷻ, then we tread one path, we are running straight towards one abode. Jahannam.
_
Whatever Fitnah is causing you to stay away from Allah ﷻ, push it away with your chest and both hands!
_
May Allah ﷻ protect us from Wahn and bring the Izzat back to this Ummah.
آمِيْن يَارَبَّ الْعَالَمِينْ
