For Them Is The Lasting Torment

Allah ﷻ says in Surah Tawbah

ٱلۡمُنَـٰفِقُونَ وَٱلۡمُنَـٰفِقَـٰتُ بَعۡضُهُم مِّنۢ بَعۡضࣲۚ

The hypocrites, both men and women, are all alike:

یَأۡمُرُونَ بِٱلۡمُنكَرِ وَیَنۡهَوۡنَ عَنِ ٱلۡمَعۡرُوفِ وَیَقۡبِضُونَ أَیۡدِیَهُمۡۚ

they enjoin evil, and forbid the good, and they close their hands

نَسُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ

They have forgotten Allah

they have forgotten the remembrance of Allah

فَنَسِیَهُمۡۚ

So He has forgotten them.

By treating them as if He has forgotten them.

إِنَّ ٱلْمُنَٰفِقِينَ هُمُ ٱلْفَٰسِقُونَ

Verily, the hypocrites are the rebellious

the rebellious from the way of truth who embrace the wicked way

وَعَدَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡمُنَـٰفِقِینَ وَٱلۡمُنَـٰفِقَـٰتِ وَٱلۡكُفَّارَ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ

Allah has promised the hypocrites — men and women — and the disbelievers, the fire of Hell.

Because of their wrongdoing,

خَـٰلِدِینَ فِیهَاۚ

therein shall they abide.

for eternity, they and the disbelievers,

هِیَ حَسۡبُهُمۡۚ

It will suffice them

Meaning as a torment.

وَلَعَنَهُمُ اللَّهُ

Allah has cursed them

He expelled and banished them from His mercy.

وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُّقِيمٌ

and for them is the lasting torment.
[9:67-68]

Allah ﷻ, in these 2 Ayaat, describes the Munafiqeen and some of their characteristics and then their punishment.
_
What is their punishment?
Allah ﷻ has promised them Hellfire as an eternity, whereas muslims will eventually be taken out.
And where in Hellfire?

As Allah ﷻ says

إِنَّ الْمُنَافِقِينَ فِي الدَّرْكِ الأَسْفَلِ مِنَ النَّارِ وَلَن تَجِدَ لَهُمْ نَصِيرًا

Verily, the hyprocrites will be in the lowest depths (grade) of the Fire; no helper will you find for them.
[4:145]

We may not be an outright Munafiq and Allah ﷻ knows best.

But upon self-reflection, we find that we have traces of Nifaaq.
How many times have we led someone away from good and into evil?
_
How many times have we had the ability to give Sadaqah but refrained without good reason?
_
How many times have we forgotten Allah ﷻ in situations when we are alone! Or when we are in poverty or prosperity?
_
How many times did we transgress against Allah ﷻ without repenting?
_
Al Hasan Al Basri رحمه الله said “Nobody fears it but a Mu’min and nobody feels safe from it except a Munafiq”
_
If Umar رضي الله عنه feared Nifaaq greatly, how can we feel safe from it?
_
Fear Allah ﷻ!
