Taqwa & The Ultimate Return

Allah ﷻ says in the Qur’an,:
وَاتَّقُواْ يَوْمًا تُرْجَعُونَ فِيهِ إِلَى اللَّهِ ثُمَّ تُوَفَّى كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَّا كَسَبَتْ وَهُمْ لاَ يُظْلَمُونَ
And have Taqwa for the Day when you shall be brought back to Allah. Then every person shall be paid what he earned, and they shall not be dealt with unjustly.
[2:281]
This Ayah is seen by some scholars as the last Ayah to be revealed before Prophet ﷺ passed away,
It is said He ﷺ lived 9 days after this Ayah was revealed.
_
Let us ponder over this Ayah,
Let us stop and reflect upon what Allah ﷻ is saying to us,
_
Allah ﷻ commands us to have Taqwa, yet again, as He ﷻ so frequently does!
Taqwa of what?
Of the day when the soul will return back to its Lord!
The day when the soul will leave its body!
_
Why does Allah ﷻ tell us to fear this day?!
ثُمَّ تَوَّفَى كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَّا كَسَبَتْ
Every Soul shall be paid for what it had earned!
_
You will have the justice exacted upon you!
You will receive the reward of goodness if you lived in the obedience of Allah ﷻ,
You will receive the recompense of evil if you lived a life without repentance and disobedience!
_
No deed will be absent from your record,
Nothing miscalculated,
No errors!
Every word you utter is recorded.
As Allah ﷻ says:
مَّا يَلۡفِظُ مِن قَوۡلٍ إِلَّا لَدَيۡهِ رَقِيبٌ عَتِيدٞ
Man does not utter any word except that with him is an observer prepared [to record].
[50:18]
_
All your deep dark secrets, that you are ashamed to tell anyone about!
Allah ﷻ knows!
It has been recorded!
You aren’t safe from the gaze of Allah ﷻ!
_
Next time you are about to do something, think!
Which Angel, my left or my right, is writing as I do this?
_
وَ هُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُون
And they shall not be wronged.
[2:281]
_
This should make us rejoice and fearful!
_
We should rejoice because that means we as believers will enter Jannah!
_
We should be fearful then, of whether our behaviour in the Dunya will earn us a term of purification from our sins in the Hellfire itself!
_
May Allah ﷻ forgive all our shortcomings and grant us Jannatul Firdaus.
آمِيْن يَارَبَّ الْعَالَمِينْ
