EPISODE 1⃣ – AN ADMONITION TO MANKIND

He was Luqman bin Anqa bin Sadun. A righteous worshipper of Allaah (ﷻ) whom He bestowed upon with wisdom.

Allaah (ﷻ) describes him in the best term and states that He granted him wisdom. Luqman advised his son, the closest and most beloved of all people to him, who deserved to be given the best of his knowledge.

This is a piece of a very resourceful advice which Allaah (ﷻ) informed us, so that people may follow it and take it as a good example.

So, Luqman started by advising him to worship Allaah (ﷻ) alone, and not to associate anything with Him,

And [mention, O Muhammad], when Luqman said to his son while he was instructing him, “O my son, do not associate [anything] with Allaah. Indeed, association [with Him] is a great injustice.”

(Luqman 31:13)

This is the first advice Luqman gave to his son, showing how important it is above the rest. Shirk (worshipping other than Allaah) does not necessarily mean bowing or kneeling in front of an idol; shirk could be in the form of words, an example is a Muslim saying words that are only known to be said by non-believers, even if it’s in a form of a joke. Shirk could be using an object to seek protection or wealth, showing off [i.e performing good deeds just so other people would see and not for the sake of Allaah (ﷻ)], swearing an oath by something other than Allaah (ﷻ), the one who swears an oath by something other than Allaah (ﷻ) such as the Ka’bah, the Prophet (ﷺ) or the president but does not believe that anyone other than Allaah (ﷻ) has the same greatness as Allaah (ﷻ) is a mushrik who is guilty of minor shirk, regardless of whether the one by whom he swore is venerated by people or not.

Then he warned him:

إِنَّ ٱلشِّرۡكَ لَظُلۡمٌ عَظِيمٌ

Verily, joining others in worship with Allaah is a great Zulm (wrong) indeed.

meaning, it is the greatest wrong.

This explains the importance of Tawheed in the lives of every Muslim. He should never associate partners with Allaah (ﷻ).

Allaah (ﷻ) says,

Indeed, Allaah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills. And he who associates others with Allaah has certainly fabricated a tremendous sin.

(An-Nisa’ 4:48)

To be continued…

May Allaah (ﷻ) keep us firmly upon the truth.
