EPISODE 1️⃣ – A Single Fast to Expiate Two Years Sins

Al-Yawmul Arafah is one of the blessed days in Islam, a day amongst the best and significant days, a day known as Al-Yawmul-Mashhud (The Attended Day), a day the blessed religion of Islam was perfected and approved, a day Allaah (ﷻ) completed His favours upon His Prophet (ﷺ), as He (ﷻ) says;

“. . . This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion . . .”
(Al-Ma’idah 5:3)

This day is indeed blessed and very significant because the above Ayah was revealed in it.

In the narration collected by Al-Bukhari in the book of Tafsir, through Tariq, he said:

The Jews said to Umar: “By Allaah! There is a verse that is read by all of you (Muslims), and had it been revealed to us, we would have taken that day (on which it was revealed) as a day of celebration.”

Umar said: “By Allaah! I know when and where this verse was revealed and where the Messenger of Allaah was at that time. It was the day of Arafah, and I was at Arafah, by Allaah.”

The day of Arafah is also significant because Allaah (ﷻ) swore by this day in Surah Al-Buruj. It is known that Allaah swears by nothing except that which is great and mighty, so the day of Arafah is greatly significant:

“By the sky containing great stars . . . And [by] the promised Day . . . And [by] the witness and what is witnessed.”
(Al-Buruj 85:1-3)

The Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ) also attest to the greatness of this day were he (ﷺ) said: “Al-Yawmul-Maw’ud (the Promised Day) is the Day of Resurrection, and Al-Yawmul-Mashhud (the Attended Day) is the Day of Arafah, and Ash-Shahid (the witness) is Friday.”

He said: “The sun does not rise nor set, upon a day that is more virtuous than it. In it, there is an hour in which no believing worshipper makes a supplication to Allaah for good, except that Allaah answers it for him, and he does not seek Allaah’s aid for something, except that He aids him in it.”
(Jamiat Tirmidhi, Vol. 5, Book 44, Hadith 3339)

1️⃣ Fasting on the Day of Arafah:

Fasting is highly encouraged and recommended for those not going on hajj.

The Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ) was asked about fasting on the day of Arafa (9th of Dhu’I-Hijja), whereupon he said: “. . . It expiates the sins of the preceding year and the coming year, . . .”
(Sahih Muslim, 1162)

To be continued إِنْ شَاءَ ٱللّٰهُ‎

May Allaah (ﷻ) accept it from us as an act of Ibaadah.

آمِيْن يَارَبَّ الْعَالَمِينْ
