6 DAYS OF FASTING

All dates mentioned are in accordance with the counting of the Sultan of Sokoto, Nigeria. Consult with your local scholars for the dates in your country as there might be variations.

🌴 Wednesday 18th of August (9th of Muharram) – Day of Tasu’a (a day before Ashoora).

🌴 Thursday 19th of August (10th of Muharram) – Day of Ashoora.

🌴 Friday 20th of August (11th of Muharram) – Day after Ashoora.

🌴 Sunday 22nd August (13th Muharram) – First of the white days.

🌴 Monday 23rd August (14th Muharram) – Second of the white days/sunnah fasting.

🌴 Tuesday 24th August (15th Muharram) – Third of the white days.

➡️ The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Fasting the day of ‘Arafah, I hope Allaah will expiate thereby for the year before it and the year after it. And fasting the day of ‘Ashoora,’ I hope Allaah will expiate thereby for the year that came before it.”

[Saheeh Muslim, 1162]

➡️ It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) said: The Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ) said: “The best fast after Ramadan is in the month of Allaah; #Muharram.”

[Saheeh Muslim 1982]

➡️ It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) that the Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ) said: “Deeds are shown (to Allaah) on Mondays and Thursdays, and I like my deeds to be shown when I am fasting.”

[Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 747; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb, 1041]

➡️ Jareer ibn ‘Abdullaah (رضي الله عنه) narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Fasting three days of each month is fasting for a lifetime, and ayaam al-beed are the thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth.”

[Narrated by al-Nasaa’i (2420); classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb, (1040)]

These are not compulsory fasts. So, if you are unable to fast all of the days, you can do as much as you are able to.

You may prioritize the day of Ashoora as well as the day before and/or after (if you’re able to).
