EPISODE 2️⃣4️⃣ – ACTIONS DURING SALAAH THAT COULD HELP ATTAIN KHUSHUU’
🕌 58. Alternate between the Surah and Various Authentic Sunan of Prayer (continuation…)
🔵 Rukuu’ (Bowing)
In rukuu’, he (ﷺ) used to vary the adhkaar he recited. In addition to
“(سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْعَظِيمَ (وَبِحَمْدِه”
“Subhaana Rabbiyal-‘Adheem (wa bi hamdih)” (Three times)
(Glory (and praise) be to my Supreme Lord)
He (ﷺ) would say:
“سُبُّوحٌ، قُدُّوسٌ، رَبُّ الْمَلَائِكَةِ وَالرُّوحِ”
“Subboohun, Quddoosun, Rabbul-malaa’ikati war-rooh.”
(Perfect, Blessed, Lord of the Angels and the Spirit).
Or he would say,
اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ رَكَعْتُ، وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ، وَلَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ خَشَعَ لَكَ سَمْعِي، وَبَصَرِي وَمُخِّي،” وَعَظْمِي، وَعَصَبِي، وَمَا اسْتَقَلَّ بِهِ قَدَمِي”
“Allaahumma laka raka’tu, wa bika ‘aamantu, wa laka ‘aslamtu khasha’a laka sam’ee, wa basaree, wa mukhkhee, wa ‘adhmee, wa ‘asabee, wa mastaqalla bihi qadamee”
(O Allaah, to You I bow (in prayer) and in You I believe and to You I have submitted. Before You my hearing is humbled, as is my sight, my mind, my bones, my nerves and what my feet have mounted upon (for travel).
🔵 Standing from Rukuu
When standing upright from rukoo’, after saying…
سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ
“Sami’a-llaahu liman hamidah.”
(Allaah listens to the one who praises Him)
… he (ﷺ) would say,
“رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ،”
“Rabbanaa wa lakal-hamd”
(Our Lord, (and) to You be all praise)
or
” اللَّهُـمَّ رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ”
“Allaahumma Rabbanaa (wa) laka’l-hamd”
(O Allaah our Lord, (and) to You be all praise).
Sometimes he (ﷺ) would add the words:
“مِلْءَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَمِلْءَ الأَرْضِ وَما بَيْنَهُمَا، وَمِلْءَ مَا شِئْتَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ بَعْدْ.”
“Mil’as-samaawaati wa mil ‘al-‘arḍi wa maa baynahumaa, wa mil ‘a maa shi’ta min shay ‘in ba’d.”
((Praise) filling the heavens, filling the earth, and filling whatever else You wish),
and sometimes he would add,
” أَهلَ الثَّنَاءِ وَالْمَجْدِ، أََحَقُّ مَا قَالَ الْعَبْدُ، وَكُلُّنَا لَكَ عَبْدٌ. اللَّهُمَّ لَا مَانِعَ لِمَا أَعْطَيْتَ، وَلَا مُعْطِيَ لِمَا مَنَعْتَ، وَلَا يَنْفَعُ ذَا الْجَدِّ مِنْكَ الجَدُّ”
“’Ahlath-thanaa’i walmajdi, ‘ahaqqu maa qaalal-‘abdu, wa kullunaa laka ‘abdun. Allaahumma laa maani’a limaa ‘a’tayta, wa laa mu’tiya limaa mana’ta, wa laa yanfa’uthal-jaddi minkal-jadd.”
(Lord of Glory and Majesty! None can withhold what You grant, and none can grant what You withhold; nor can the possessions of an owner benefit him in front of You).
