65 TIPS TO BUILD CONNECTION WITH ALLAAH IN SALAAH

EPISODE 2️⃣0️⃣ – ACTIONS DURING SALAAH THAT COULD HELP ATTAIN KHUSHUU’

🕌 52. Moving at a Measured Pace During Prayer and Maintaining it

To perfect your salaah, you need to offer your prayer at a slow or moderate pace to ensure all bones completely settle in their place before you move on to the next action. But what we observed is that most Imams in our Masjids today move so quick and fast in prayers, ignoring the positions of the congregation such that most of the congregation barely completes the current act nor settle in it before the Imam says the Takbir ordering the next act. Our Imams need to be educated.

The Prophet (ﷺ) used to move at a measured pace during salaah, allowing every bone to return to its place.

[Its isnaad is classed as saheeh in Sifat al-Salaat, p. 134, 11th edn. Ibn Khuzaymah also classed it as saheeh as mentioned by al-Haafiz in al-Fath, 2/308].

He commanded those who were not doing their prayer properly to do this too. He said, “None of you has prayed properly until he does this.”

[Reported by Abu Dawood, 1/536, no. 858].

Abu Qutaadah (رضي الله عنه) said: “The Prophet (ﷺ) said: ‘The worst type of thief is the one who steals from his prayer.’ He said, ‘O Messenger of Allaah, how can a person steal from his prayer?’He said, ‘By not doing rukoo’ and sujood properly.’”

[Reported by Ahmad and al-Haakim, 1/229; Saheeh al-Jaami’, 997].

Abu ‘Abd-Allaah al-Ash’ari (رضي الله عنه) said: “The Prophet (ﷺ) said, ‘The one who does not do rukoo’ properly, and pecks in sujood, is like a starving man who eats only one or two dates; it does not do him any good at all.’”

[Reported by al-Tabaraani in al-Kabeer, 4/115. In Saheeh al-Jaami’ it says, hasan].

🕌 53. Remembering Death whilst Praying

Praying as if that is one’s last prayer helps keep khushuu in mind during such prayer. A praying Muslim should remember death whilst praying, so he should offer a prayer of farewell, thinking that he will never offer another prayer after that. Thus, he will strive hard to offer such prayer perfectly.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Remember death in your prayer, for the man who remembers death during his prayer is bound to pray properly and pray the prayer of a man who does not think that he will pray any other prayer.”

[al-Silsilat al-Saheehah by al-Albaani, 1421].

The Prophet (ﷺ) also advised Abu Ayyoob (رضي الله عنه): “When you stand up to pray, pray a farewell prayer.”

[Reported by Ahmad, 5/412; Saheeh al-Jaami’, no. 742].

Ad-Daylami narrated in Musnad al-Firdaws from Anas (رضي الله عنه) that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Remember death when you pray, for if a man remembers death when he prays, he will strive to make his prayer good. Pray the prayer of a man who does not think that he will ever pray another prayer, and beware of any matter that may require you to offer an apology”

[Classed as hasan by alHaafiz as it says in al-Maqaasid al-Hasanah (p. 226); classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami‘ (849)].
