EPISODE 2: The Do’s And Don’ts Of Ramadan
➖➖➖
In continuation of those actions that nullify fasting as it has been mentioned (by Allaah, His Prophet and the scholars), among such other actions includes:
7. Exaggerating sniffing of water
When the faster intentionally allow water into his stomach during the process of ablution or any other action, this makes the fast void, and this is based on the Hadith of the Prophet (ﷺ). And this ruling also applies to application of nose drops into the nose according to some scholars.
Narrated Laqit ibn Saburah:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Snuff up water freely unless you are fasting.
(Sunan Abi Dawud 2366. Graded Sahih by Al-Albani)
8. Nutritional injections
Nutritional injections, by which means one is able to do without food and drink. This is because, even though they are not food and drink, they bear the traits of food and drink, since by means of them one is able to do without food and drink, and that which bears the traits of a thing carries the same ruling as that thing. For this reason, the survival of the body depends on taking these injections, meaning that the body remains nourished by these injections, even though it is not being nourished by other means.
As for injections which do not nourish and do not take the place of food and drink, they do not break the fast, whether a person is given intravenously, intramuscularly or via any other part of his body.
This evidence can be seen in the book: Fatawa Arkanul Islam, by Sheikh Muhammad bin Salih Al-Uthaimin(رحمه الله).
9. Masturbation
As written in the book, Fatawa Arkanul Islam, by Sheikh Muhammad bin Salih Al-Uthaimin (رحمه الله);
If a fasting person masturbates, and he ejaculates, then he has broken his fast and he is required to make up for the day on which he masturbated. There is no atonement incumbent upon him because atonement is not required except for intercourse, and he must repent for what he has done.
10. Untruthful Speech and Evil Actions:
The fasting individual is expected to avoid any evil deeds, which may include, lying, slandering and backbiting, gambling, stealing, listening and looking at forbidden things, as these deeds reduce the rewards in the fast, and may even nullify the fast if the individual persists in the deeds.
The individual should engage in various Islamic functions such as attending tafsir sections, recitation of the Holy Qur’an, lots of istighfar and dhikr and any other good deeds as in the month of Ramadaan, the rewards of good deeds are doubled.
Narrated Abu Huraira (رضي الله عنه):
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Whoever does not give up false statements (i.e. telling lies), and evil deeds, and speaking bad words to others, Allaah is not in need of his (fasting) leaving his food and drink.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari 6057)
And Allaah (ﷻ) knows best.
May Allaah forgive us and grant us the rewards accompanying this blessed month.
آمين يارب العالمين
