Consciousness to the way of Allah ﷻ
Al Muzni entered upon Imam Ash Shafi’i while he was sick with the illness that he died with,
He said
“How are you O Abu Abdillah?”
So he رحمه الله said
أصبحت عن الدنيا راحلا
I have become a leaver from this world,
ولإخواني مفارقا
And I am departing from my brothers,
ولسوء عملي ملاقيا
And I will meet my evil actions,
و لكاس المنية شاربا
And I am drinking from the cup of death,
و على الله واردا
And to Allah ﷻ I am arriving
ما أدري
I don’t know!
روحي تصير إلى جنة فأهنيها
If my soul is going towards Jannah, where I will be in delight, so I may congratulate it
أو الى النار فأعزيها
Or to the fire, where I will be debased, so that I may console it.
Then he cried, and recited:
و لما قسا قلبي و ضاقت مذاهبي
When my heart hardened and my ways narrowed
جعلت الرجاء دون عفوك سلما
My hope of your forgiveness towards you was my approach
تعظمني ذنبي فلما قرنته
My sins seemed very great to me, yet when I compare it with your forgiveness
بعفوك ربي كان عفوك أعظما
Your forgiveness, My Lord, was greater
فما زلت ذا عفو عن الذنب لم تزل
Yet, still you forgive sins
تجود و تعفو منة و تكرما
Generously, and gracefully bestow and forgive,
فلولاك لم يصمد لإبليس عابد
Were it not for you no worshipper would withstand Iblees,
فكيف وقد أغوى صفية آدما
How and he already lured your chosen Aadam
فيا ليت شعري هل أصير لجنة
Alas! Would I be led to paradise then I am a fortunate
أهنا؟ و أما للسعير فاندما
Or a remorse? To hell I am led
فإن تنتقم مني فلست بآيس
And if you decided to take revenge on me I would not be surprised
و لو أدخلت روحي بجرمي جهنما
And if my soul was to enter the depths of hell,
و إن تعف عني تعف عن متمرد
And if you forgive me, you are forgiving a rebellious one
ظلوم عشوم قاس القلب مجرما
A wrongful unfair pitiless criminal

But ponder over this,
This is Imam Ash Shafi’i رحمه الله speaking about himself!

Act upon these wise words from Umar رضي الله عنه
حاسبوا أنفسكم قبل أن تحاسبوا
Account for yourselves before you are accounted.
_
Ya Ibn Adam! Repent!
_
May Allah ﷻ grant us forgiveness for all sins and may He ﷻ grant us safety from the fire and enter us into Jannah Al Firdous.
