Allah ﷻ says in the Qur’an
وَيَوْمَ يَعَضُّ ٱلظَّالِمُ عَلَىٰ يَدَيْهِ يَقُولُ يَٰلَيْتَنِى ٱتَّخَذْتُ مَعَ ٱلرَّسُولِ سَبِيلًۭا▪يَٰوَيْلَتَىٰ لَيْتَنِى لَمْ أَتَّخِذْ فُلَانًا خَلِيلًۭا
And the Day the wrongdoer will bite on his hands [in regret] he will say, “Oh, I wish I had taken with the Messenger a way. Oh, woe to me! I wish I had not taken that one as a friend.
[25:27-28]
Meaning, the one among the propagators of misguidance who diverted him from true guidance and led him to follow the path of misguidance.
_
لَّقَدْ أَضَلَّنِى عَنِ ٱلذِّكْرِ
He indeed led me astray from the Reminder
Means the Qur’an,
بَعْدَ إِذْ جَآءَنِى
after it had come to me.
Means, after it had reached me.
وَكَانَ ٱلشَّيْطَٰنُ لِلْإِنسَٰنِ خَذُولًۭا
And Shaytan is to man ever a deserter (in the hour of need).
[25:29]
Meaning, he leads him away from the truth and diverts him from it, and uses him for the purposes of falsehood and calls him to it.
_
Wallahi! We must pick our companions wisely, people who remind us of Allah ﷻ, people who boost our Imaan, are not afraid to give us Naseeha!
Because on the day that matters, when we’re standing under the Arsh of Allah ﷻ and its shade, we will be rejoicing at their efforts for us in Dunya!
_
ٱلْأَخِلَّآءُ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوٌّ إِلَّا ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ
Close friends will be enemies to one another on that Day, except the righteous.
[43:67]
Means, every friendship that exists for a purpose other than for the sake of Allah ﷻ will turn to enmity on the Day of Resurrection.
_
As Prophet ﷺ said “Man is upon the Religion of his friend”
[Sunan al-Tirmidhī 2378]
_
How many times have our existing friends misled us?
How many times have your friends encouraged us to sin?
How many times have they avoided the worship of Allah ﷻ and caused us to aswell?
_
Is this what friendship means?
To lead someone to the fire of torment by the hand?
_
If we feel that our friends have a bad effect on us, then we advise them!
And if they do not take heed
_
We Follow the advice of Imam Nawawi رحمه الله “If you let go of the love for your Deen, I let go of my love for you”
May Allah ﷻ Grant us righteous friends.
آمِيْن يَارَبَّ الْعَالَمِينْ
