A Bid’ah, Not Sunnah
Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih Al-Uthaymeen رحمه الله said:
“Nothing authentic has been reported that the Prophet (ﷺ) used to raise his hands for dua after the obligatory prayers or sunnah prayers.”
[Fatawa Nur ala Darb 6322]

Shaykh Abdul Aziz bin Baz رحمه الله said:
“As for (raising the hands to make du’aa after the) obligatory prayer, neither the Prophet (ﷺ) nor the Companions did it, but they would sometimes do it after supererogatory (sunnah) Prayer according to the religious evidence permitting raising one’s hands on supplicating to Allah when it is done from time to time.”
[Majmoo al Fatawa of Ibn Baz. Part No. 30; Page No.44]
_ Shaykh Abdul Aziz bin Baz رحمه الله said:
“There aren’t any authentic reports that the Prophet (ﷺ) or any of His companions (may Allah be pleased with them) used to raise their hands and then supplicate after the obligatory prayer, as far as I am aware. So, based on that to raise the hands after the obligatory prayer is a Bid’ah [an innovation].”_
[Majmoo al Fatawa, Vol 11. Pg: 167-168]

It says in Fatawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah:
Making du’aa’ after the obligatory prayers is not Sunnah if it is done by raising the hands, whether that is done by the imam alone or a member of the congregation alone, or it is done by them both together. Rather that is bid’ah, because it was not narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) or any of his companions (may Allaah be pleased with them) did that. With regard to making du’aa’ without doing that (raising the hands etc.), there is nothing wrong with it, because there are some ahaadeeth concerning that.
