EPISODE 2️⃣: Consequences of Neglecting Salaah
📍Loss of blessings and good things in this life and the Hereafter.
Allaah (ﷻ) said,
وَٱسْتَعِينُوا۟ بِٱلصَّبْرِ وَٱلصَّلَوٰةِ…
And seek help through patience and As-Salaah (The obligatory prayers),…
(Al-Baqarah, 2:45)
This shows that anyone who doesn’t offer Salaah doesn’t have the privilege to seek help through it.
📍Increased difficulty in adhering to Allaah’s commands.
…إِنَّ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ تَنْهَىٰ عَنِ ٱلْفَحْشَآءِ وَٱلْمُنكَرِ
…Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing…
(Surah Al-Ankaboot, 29:45)
Thus, one who neglects the prayer is more likely to disobey the rest of Allaah’s commands.
Ibn al-Qayyim (رحمه الله) stated, “In the heart there is hardness which can only be softened by remembrance of Allaah. So the slave must treat the hardness of his heart with the remembrance of Allaah”.
📍Delay in provisions
Hasan al-Basri said:
“As much as you fix your salah, your life will be fixed. If you are wondering why there is a delay in your sustenance, in your marriage, in your work, in your health. Look into your salah: are you delaying it?”
📍Invalidity of deeds.
Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen was asked in Fataawa al-Siyaam (p. 87) about the ruling on the fasting of one who does not pray.
He replied:
The fast of one who does not pray is not valid and is not accepted, because the one who does not pray is a kaafir and an apostate.
For the same reason as above, any deeds performed will be annulled, because as long as a person abandons his Salaah, he is a kaafir.
📍Punishment in Jahannam.
If death meets a person and he hasn’t repented from abandoning his Salaah (Na’oodhu billaah) he will be punished in Jahannam.
Allaah says:
مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِى سَقَرَ(٤٢) قَالُوا۟ لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ (٤٣)
(And asking them) “What put you into Saqar?” (42) They will say, “We were not of those who prayed, (43)
(Muddaththir, 74: 42-43)
Saqar is a level of Jahannam described in the Qur’aan as thus:
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سَقَرُ (٢٧( لَا تُبْقِى وَلَا تَذَرُ (٢٨) لَوَّاحَةٌ لِّلْبَشَرِ(٢٩)
And what can make you know what Saqar is? (27) It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], (28) Blackening the skins.(29)
(Muddaththir, 74: 27-29)
We ask Allaah to assist us in remembering Him.
آمِيْن يَارَبَّ الْعَالَمِينْ.
