Istighfaar erases sins, and with it these sins are forgiven.
Allah ﷻ says in the Qur’an:
وَ مَن يَعمَل سُوءًا أَو يَظلِم يَفسَهُ ثُمَّ يَستَغفِرِ اللهَ يَجِدِ اللهَ غَفُوراً رَّحِيمًا
Whoever does an evil or wrongs himself, then seeks forgiveness from Allah, will find Allah most forgiving and most merciful.
[4:110]

So Istighfaar is a reason for goodness, a reason for provision, a reason for blessings.

As Allah ﷻ says
فَقُلْتُ اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّهُ كَانَ غَفَّارًا ▪ يُرْسِلِ السَّمَاءَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِدْرَارًا ▪ وَيُمْدِدْكُمْ بِأَمْوَالٍ وَبَنِينَ وَيَجْعَلْ لَكُمْ جَنَّاتٍ وَيَجْعَلْ لَكُمْ أَنْهَارًا
So I said seek forgiveness from your Lord! Indeed he is ever forgiving. He will send from the sky rain upon you in abundance, and He will increase you in wealth and children and He will make for you gardens and He will make for you rivers.
[71:10-12]

Some of the people of knowledge concluded about these Ayaat, that Istighfaar brings together goodness for a person in the Dunya and in the Akhirah.

The Prophet ﷺ said
“Whoever is constant in Istighfaar, Allah will make for him a relief from every sadness, and a way out from every hardship, and will provide him from where he doesn’t expect.”
[Musnad Aḥmad 2234, Grade:Sahih]

Abu Nu’aym رحمه الله reported: Al-Rabia’ ibn Khuthaym رحمه الله said to his companions:
“Do you know the disease, the cure, and the healing?” They said no. Al-Rabia’ said, “The disease is sin, the cure is to seek forgiveness from Allah, and the healing is to repent and then not repeat it.”
[Ḥilyat al-Awliyā’ 1722]

Istighfaar removes the sins, and brings about provision! It brightens the heart and chases away the Shaytaan! Increase in it, to receive it’s benefits!

Moving your tongue is effortless, so do not waste this ability on useless things, rather keep it busy with Istighfaar!

May Allah ﷻ forgive us for all of our sins, grant us respite from all punishments in Dunya and Akhirah and give us a good ending.
